Sinotec VS LG

WTF is sinoprima? International linky please.

At least I know how to spell it :p or is your version spelt Sinotech

I have no idea, I don't notice the logo that much when my eyes are on the screen...

Great, glad you think so. But quality is a subjective thing, others may not share your opinion.

If you can't see the difference you need to get ur eyes checked man, 1366x768 does not look good at all on a 32" in PC Mode, trust me.

Honda makes bicycles?

Size and resolution isn't everything dude, if you could spot the difference between 720p and 1080p I'd be astounded TBH.

yes, they do it seems :D

i was just proving a point, that if you don't have much, it's better to buy what you need, than go for brand and get less for your money, because brands are more expensive.

if ur a beggar - would you buy 5 bread's for the week, or eat once at Spur?

Most people don't need a big LCD for PC use.

OK i'll check tonight what my bluray's look like at 720p, and then at 1080p, and report back in like 1 hour.

i'm betting I will see a difference. (i will be honest.)

Well you make a fair point about being cash strapped. But beggars needing food is a necessity. A TV upgrade is not a necessity so why not save up a bit more.

well if u looking at the mini tvs (32"), then you only have to save up R700-R1500 which isn't much. then yes, do it.

but when u wanna come play with the big boys IE 42", 46", 52", then the brand difference is between about R4000 to 12000.

I see at makro sinotec has a 47" FullHD LCD for R15,000 and a SAMSUNG 46" for R22,000.

now is R7000 really worth the sony logo? i'd buy a laptop, 4870X2 or an iPhone for that kind of money rather.

anyway - here is a comparison for those that think "Resolution doesn't matter"

1080p

Go with Lucky GoldStar.

Avoid Sinotech, Sonic, Sansui, etc.
Agree 100%.

Always go brand name, even if a bit more expensive. If you can't afford,
wait a little bit (6 months) and re-evaluate the prices of the brand name sets again.

My 5c.
I wouldn't wait unless you've got some funds outside South Africa. Prices are going to increase fairly soon. The Rand has devalued by around 25% in the past couple of weeks... sooner or later that is going to drive up the prices of imported electronics. If you're going to buy, now is a good time.

Erm, what does that prove? that resolution makes windows smaller? Thank you but I think we already knew that. Not one person here said that resolution doesn't matter, what we said was that there is more to a panel than resolution, especially in the smaller ones or mini tv's as you pointed out which this thread is about(LG 32" VS Sinotec 32").

What does normal DSTV/dvds look like on the tata?

I saw an instore memo this week by one of the Cape's well known home everything suppliers and it basically implored the salespeople to move the LG screens because they are sitting on R100 million worth of stock.
So it would seem that the LG screens are not moving at least in the popularity stakes they would be dead bottom of the list.

well the 42" Sinotecs are gone at All Makro's, there is no more stock left, only 32", 46" or something...

Unless the Rand really collapses and heads to 20 to a dollar I wouldn't worry. Electronics prices will be dropping despite the low value of the Rand because global demand is decreasing anyway while newer parts are coming out every 6 months or so. The only difference will be that you may not see as significant a price drop. I don't think it'll get as bad as arf9999 says, I don't think it got this bad in 2001 when the Rand hit 13 to the Dollar. Although if the global economy really tanks and demand drops off entirely, manufacturers will
be closing down assembly lines and we may see an artificial increase in
prices, still its no reason to buy an expensive item when the economy is tanking, you'll need that money for food and petrol instead.

If you look at hellopeter.com you can see the Ratio's (What % are happy)

LG: 5% Happy
Sinotec: 57% Happy

When something goes wrong after 12 months, you don't wanna be stuck with no guarantee and no customer service. **** does happen you know, and electronics CAN and WILL fail at some point or another.

With Sinotec I get:
- a Bigger Screen @ a MUCH cheaper price
- Better resolutions for PC and bluray
- 2 x Working HDMI's (Not like LG Crap)
- USB Port which means i can play mp3's, pictures and videos from a USB stick
- Included Wallmount (These things cost about a grand AFAIK)
- 5 times the Warranty
- Response and good customer Service

you can say at R30,000 Samsung is better than a sinotec - I agree.
but for the love of LCD's NEVAR put LG above Sinotec!

The average decline in price in LCD televisions is around 20% per year in dollar terms, how can a 25% decline in the value of the rand not have an impact? In 2001 prices did increase, and the same thing will happen in the next few months. Priced a Macbook recently?

I'd go for LG, Sinotec is one of those name brands I don trust

Well I would wait. If the markets collapse the LCDs will either drop in price
even more as companies try to dump as much of their stock as possible
and stop production altogether or what you say persists and LCDs maintain
their prices of increase by 5% - which is still below inflation.

If we were to agree with you it would make more sense to buy the most expensive set you can right now as it may be your last LCD for the next 20 years....
