Any pool experts here? I've just installed a large fibre pool on a rather down-sloped section and now want to attach the pump/filter. My first choice - for pump noise reasons - is a site to the side that is approx level with the bottom of the deep end (1.7m below the surface waterline). My rudimentary knowledge of fluid dynamics tells me this means a leak at the pump/filter will drain the pool. Also, will I need to fit a non-return valve, say on the far side of the pump? Anyone with any knowledge/advice, or know whom I can speak to about this? Much appreciated.

you can do it, but put a valve in before the filter, so when you want to clean the filter, to pool does not run out there.
a Pool motor likes to suffer, strain from pool and kreepy or barra, but yours will do. just make very sure your valve is open always, otherwise buy buy pump motor.
maybe a locking device to lock valve open.
