Ted Lassoes the Sun!

So I bought a brand new Hubble AM2 today to add to the existing one currently on approx 600 cycles. Should be delivered tomorrow.

Few questions.

1. Can I install this myself? Yes , I know it's moerse heavy, but I have the manpower to help me wall mount it - Will turn off everything before connecting the batteries together

2. Assuming the battery cables are in the box , can I use that to connect to the first battery?
2.1 Does it need to match the length from the fuse to the first battery?

Think I also have spare battery cable from the initial install which I would need to dig out if necessary

3. Do I make the new one , the master?

4. Would I need a new COC ?

5. I also expect when it is installed , on the sunsynk, I set battery capacity /charge / discharge amp from 100A to 200A. ( Side note: I set charge amps to 80A for the current battery to hopefully save it a bit - still gets to 100% on good sunny days - so may set it as 160 when two are installed).

Reason I am asking if I can do it myself , is work commitments for me and the SO mean we are going to be in different countries for a few weeks (cool but crap) . Don't think I can get a sparky to come by Tuesday, when we leave to come install it. Just need it to give us the peace of mind the house will run overnight or longer should there be an area outage after loadshedding.

On the left, the cables that came with the first Hubble, on the right, the cables supplied by powerforum store (really quality cable) which is connected from fuses to first Hubble.

I definitely don't have the tools to use the fat cable (for crimping and stuff) but assume the cable supplied by Hubble meets the need and is within spec and would just fit by putting them in the relevant terminals 20230401_191016.jpg20230401_180501.jpg

Cables for parallel connections should be identical thickness and length, but I guess you can use the supplied cables as a temp fix until you come back. Not ideal as one battery will work more than the other as electricity takes the path of least resistance.

How much did you pay for that Hubble? I am out of touch with prices.
 
They're going for anything between R 30 - R 33k currently. Voltex has them listed at R 31k.
Bliksem I paid R24k for my 1st one in Nov 2021 and R25k for my second one in Jan 2022.
 
I see anywhere from R30k - R35k. Problem is how many of these suppliers are legit. I would be kak scared to shop around now. Would only buy from reputable places. Even if it is a bit more.

Absolutely, that's why I indicated the Voltex price as they are reputable. If you are in Gauteng and can do so research/homework, I've seen regular ads from Centurion Solar who's currently listing them for just under R 30k. I don't know anything about them though.
 
Paid 27K with VAT. Don't know the name of store since I didn't buy it directly - but it was just a small component of a huge order (54 Solar panels, 3 x 8KVA inverters , loads of 4.8KW Pylontech batteries) so I just latched on and got the discount. Forgot to check if it is a AM2-REV2 or AM2 REV1 (like my existing one) - anyway only to be installed in a few weeks now :(

Now also wondering since I don't have a cloudlink, if it will be needed? since I guess firmware could be different between the existing one and the new one. Will have to ask the sparky to upgrade the firmware when he does come to install - I think he has all the tools for it.

Was in two minds to dump the hubble and also switch to pylontechs like my relatives (i told them to get pylontechs) but decided to continue to take the 'risk' with mines. Didn't want to spend 73K for about 14.4 Kw of pylontech storage. I think that's what they paid about R25K incl VAT for each US5000C or something like that.

Also 0.5c vs 1c (unless the Pylontech's have finally caught up?).
 
Also NMC vs LFP. I'd go with the tried and trusted Pylontech or any reputable LFP. C rating becomes less relevant the more batteries you have...
Yup. In one of the houses, they installed 5 of the UP5000C pylontechs (jealous). They not going to have a problem with their battery capacity. Think with pyltontech (or any 0.5c battery), 3 are needed as a minimum (my personal opinion)

Knaar with myself , that I didn't get to install that second hubble before i left. The house went down twice thanks to stage 6. Anyway, now charging a bit more from grid during early evening to be sure it doesn't happen again.

I configured the battery as Battery2 on the dip switch.

On the Sunsynk Inverter: Now set max batt capacity to 200 (even though Hubble 1 shows as 110 and Hubble 2 shows as 100 in Solar assistant)
