Yes, there's an open source version of Linux client being developed. This will be a part of larger offering, but we can't tell you much more about that right now. Having an open source UI will help us get adopted in the "multicultural" land of Linux distributions, as well as on other platforms and will speed up further development. We will update you once more details are available.

Not open source in my book. They are only open sourcing the UI/Client, the protocol remains closed...
 
Awesome! I've been bitching so long about skype not caring about linux users.
Although I hope the developers working on it wont design it to look/feel like the latest windows version.
I used it on my fiance's laptop and it's absolutely horrible. Made me appreciate my old neglected version a bit more ;)

Agreed, the new version's UI for windows is terrible. :sick:
