I have Skyrim on order from Kalahari and expect delivery any day now.
Only sh*t is I have read posts and reviews that mentions that the game will need to install via Steam and will install a 200MB + patch?!

I only have a 50MB 3G bundle. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Any suggestions? I sure dont wanna pay a fortune to install this game or download patches that I dont need just yet (might d/l at a later time or wait until its on a NAG or PCF dvd). Any very cheap pay as you go 3G bundles out there for about 250MB?
Better even, any No-Steam crack that installs the whole game from my original DVD and dont go looking for a patch online?

Thanks.

Get a CellC pre-paid sim.

Load R 50 airtime and get 500MB bundle free with you loading R 50 airtime. Then use that R 50 to buy another 100MB's and watch porn with that balance if you want

I don't understand how people get by on measly 3G packages. I use a minimum of 20 gigs every month and that's without pirating anything. Youtube, streaming audio, steam patches, voip...

The patches won't be available for separate download later. It's Steam or bust!

O.o

Cell C R50 airtime gets you 500MB data bundle for free? Wow.
URL?

Check the CellC section.

Catch is though:
Only valid from Monday morning (00:00) till Sunday evening at 23:59.
So if you load it on a Sunday morning, you need to use it all up before it expires at 23:59.
And a maximum of 1000 MB's per week (R 100 loaded)

I've been doing this for months now, it works out awesome.

Will post a link to the thread in the CellC section.

Promo extended till 31 December:

Skyrim is awesome, so good decision on buying the game.

Bad news - you must use Steam. The patch, apparently contains some files the game need to work - no patch, no play.

Good news - Steam have no impact on PC performance & can be run in offline mode (just connect to the Net after activating Steam in offline mode).

More Bad News - installing Skyrim is as fun and easy as trying to squeeze cooked spaghetti up a wild cat's rear end. Check Google on the procedure before starting - Steam will try to download the game (the whole 5.7Gb!!!) unless you follow the less than comfortable route...

I had no problems (apart from trying to reset my Steam details)

<connected to internet without steam running>
Insert Skyrim Disk
Run Setup
Follow prompts until it asks for Steam user details
Enter details
Enter CD Key
Install

Put pretty box on shelf, find a friend with a pirated copy, play the pirated copy. Then when you have data/money available install the legit copy.

It's so silly to insist on Steam for a singleplayer game like skyrim, I have no problem with steam really I just don't wantto have to have it running all the time and it to give me issues the moment I am offline. I bought Skyrim and I'm still going to have to go and find a pirated version with a crack so I can just get rid of all the that. Am I the only one who tthinks it's ridiculous that the pirates always end up with the best version of the game.

One of my forum users found the following info:

I don't mean to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I should revert to my post which said that other solutions to the installation problem didn't work (the link gus pasted being one of them) and that only the Bethsoft Support Team's solution worked for me.
BTGames' solution simply did the same thing that it does anyway - i.e. trying to install by downloading the whole game.

Instead these are helpful hints to follow (gotten from Bethesda and tested on two different machines works perfectly):

"1.) Insert the Skyrim disc DVD into your DVD-ROM drive and allow the auto-run to execute.
2.) From there, select install and allow the installer to run.
3.) Once Steam has been installed and you log into your account, it will prompt you to enter your Steam Activation Key.
4.) Select "Skyrim retail". Once redeemed, it will ask if you want to continue with installation. Cancel this.
5.) From here, run the auto-run for the disc again. You can do this by ejecting and then re-inserting the disc.
6.) Select install again as you did before.
7.) Allow the installer to run and as long as you remain logged into Steam, the install will begin from the Disc.
8.) It will show a progress with a time remaining. Once the Disc has installed, it will finish downloading the patch from the
Steam network which will be about 230 MB. Once this completes Steam will read the game as available to “Play”."

Just my (rather long) 2cents. As far as I've heard the BT Games solution works for other Steam games, but for this particular puppy following the above steps is the only way to go.

I'm merely posting all this as frustration with said 'solutions' led me to being 2 days late to playing the game even though I pre-ordered the darned thing!

Anyway, I hope these steps helps someone else in need :p

Yay, my copy of Skyrim has arrived by courier.
Now tonight after work:
1. Rush to a Cell C dealer and see if my vodacom Nokia 5800 will support a Cell C simcard, or else my old Vodacom Samsung Z500
2. Buy Sim card and R50 airtime in order to get the free 500MB, aight? (How much is a Pay as you go Simcard?)
3. Rush home
4. Install the game using 3G via the Cell C connection... How long will this take?
5. Hopefully get to play this game before bedtime still. :)

Wow so many complaints about steam. I buy all my PC games whether single player or not.

Just get uncapped for heaven's sake!

One annoying thing about the game is that you have to log into Steam to change the video options like resolution/shadows etc. I wanted to try out different settings the other day but realized I couldn't because I couldn't log on to steam. (CellC network downtime)

Think CellC sim is R 1.99
Yes, load R 50 get R 50 airtime and 500MB free.
CellC is pretty damn quick, but it depends on the speed your phone does.

So how did it go?
