Skyrim

okay so weekend was lost in Skyrim, not sure what exactly happened to Saturday but I hear rumors that it was warm in Jhb...

The game is fantastic (no pun intended), playing dark elf and trying to build a sneaky wizard. The world is incredible, dungeons are challenging and certainly is a worth succesor to Oblivion.

Only complaint is the enemy AI, it appears that all they really do is rush forward towards you, I am playing it slowly though (Lvl 9) so maybe in some of the harder areas/enemys things get real...

Anyone else have likes/dislikes after the weekend?

Oh and on a side not, does anyone else miss the old BT Games in Northgate. That shop had atmosphere, with the carpets and weird incense sticks.. The new place is like buying a game at a pharmacy.. no fun at all..

I'm struggling a lot. I'm lvl 13 and when trying to go to the wizard college place (forgot the name) I just run into one spider or one sabertooth and get hit once and die...

Either the game starts to get very difficult or I'm just doing it wrong :p

guys, if you bought the disc and its still goes ahead and tries to download the entire game using steam (which it WILL do by default) then just do the below... it works :)

Great workaround, really helped.

Some of my friends and i discovered that notwithstanding the forced install from the disk the install would stop whilst copying the content off the disk (at varying percentages). It seems as if the disks themselves are prone to errors for some reason.

Easy fix for this if you're having problems is to create an image of the disk on a pc where the drive seems to like the Skyrim disk, mount and then install as per the usual instructions (using the letter of your virtual drive).

Everyone uses the working image with their respective keys and then both you and steam are happy!

Can I say how much I hate the companions? The first 1 I got would charge ahead when I would sneak through caves, kept moving in front of my spells and thought she'd be a hero and charge a dragon >.> She didn't last very long

I've only discovered about 4 or 5 Word walls (only started exploring them after 'unlocking' the dragons), climbed the 7000 steps up the Throat of the World, still have at least 35 quests keeping me away from the Main Story quests and have explored about 10% of the map (after 25 hours of play)

@Stevovo, look out for the horse drawn carriages outside of the main towns (ie Whiterun/Windhelm), you can use those to go to all the other cities without having discovered them (would be the safest way to get to that Wizard College :p)

Just finished the main story line... it was pretty entertaining. Killing dragons is fun!

I had to finish it as I would have thought of nothing else while at work on Monday.

17hrs

No side quests etc? I'm finding the best part of the game being the exploring of the world, doing side quests and the build up >_<

The world is just done so well that I'm not finding a dull moment like ever, just so much fun developing my character and getting loot.

One criticism, my horse seems to fall through solid stairs more often than I'd like >_<

Still, best game I've played in a long time... can't wait to get home and enjoy some more :D

I really am loving this game.. can't believe how immersed I am in it. The environments are spectacular and the quests are great.. I have just finished the dungeon looking for the Horn of something, and have left the main quest line there.. want to start concentrating more on the side quests..

I'm playing an elf destruction mage (full)

Up to now I would give this game 9.5/10

Ditto, its hard to be a sneaky wizard with that great blundering chick following you. I would ditch her but she does help help out in some of the tougher battles (I seem to struggle with Restless Draugars for some reason)

Anyone playing straight dual-wield Warrior? I'm currently lvl 9 or so..and while it's very satisfying bashing skulls in on normal NPCs, I find it VERY hard to fight mini-bosses. Especially mage types. This one bloke (Vulkan I think) basically 2 shotted me with firebolts. Finally managed to kill him like a coward...after like 1 hour of struggling :(

I don't even want to know how a dragon is gonna piets me.

Tips appreciated

why am I at work??? I should be playing! :D

im a female orc battle mage. one-handed weapon and destruction magic my choice of pain! :)

im level 6 i think, and on my way to the top of that mountain to chat to the greybeards or w/e it is.

ive killed two dragon's now, and have dragon-bone and dragon-scales. scales are for light armor (i think) so I sold those. I kept the bones as I wanna make some nice heavy armor. Im trying to level my blacksmithing but Im a noob at Elder Scrolls so I dont know how to do it effectively...

Any tips?

 the game

Afaik, making the dragon heavy armor requires scales as well as bones. The light armor requires just scales.

Anyone playing straight dual-wield Warrior?

<- Dual wielding Light Armor Khajiit

I tend to use the environment to my advantage, hide behind a corner till he gets to melee range then a few dual - power attack, magicka for healing, bow for ranged damage

I do hate mages the most though, being hit by frost for more than 10sec means I need to drink to get my stamina back :(

Also having a blast, level 14 Nord Warrior now. Just returned from the 7000 Steps.

I'm playing a Two-Handed Heavy Armour Nord Warrior, with Restoration, so basically a paladin. I just rush in and beat things, then run away while dual-casting heals, then fight again, rinse, repeat. I'm really looking forward to the heals restore stamina perk. It is a bit different than your build, but I can give you a few things that work for me.

I find that using Unrelenting Force on mages works great, then run up and power attack them and they should stagger again, then power attack again, then run away and heal, then repeat. The real problem with dual-wield and spell-weapon builds, I think, is that you can't bash, which is extremely useful to disrupt spells or enemy power attacks and setup your own power attack. Maybe try taking some magic buffs or make/buy resist potions. Drain-magicka weapons would also really help you if you can get a few blows in early. Otherwise, play peekaboo with a bow.

Thanks, that was quite helpful. I also realized I HAVE to level my Smithing - to better my gear and weapons. (Yes, I am a Elder Scrolls newbie =p) I have also started going the restoration route actually, currently my restoration is on 31 points (I think) so I need to start taking some perks there. It's just hard to choose which perks to upgrade :/ For instance in the One-armed tree or restoration tree etc. T

Thanks for the tips. :)
