Also this help section on the Netflix website is not clear and points to Skyworth purposefully crippling the box considering that the Skyworth rep said its a Netflix problem.

The Netflix app should not even be in the play store if its not Netflix compatible.

It seems as if versions around 4.16 work to some extent, but we cannot give you a trusted way to obtain one. We're hoping the Android 9.0 update will restore the functionality of the version from Netflix's site. Please be sure you can trust any app you sideload, as your Google and Netflix accounts need to be secure. While there are apk mirror sites out there, we are not able to judge their safety, and apks that have been hacked to display full HD content may also have been modified in other ways.

It is what it is . The other boxes with Android TV OS are more expensive.

Are you saying there is a new model out for R899.00 available at those outlets? I'm not quite following.

As for Chromecast versus the LIT/Mi, both the boxes offer Netflix UltraHD with HDR. I think a Chromecast with the same specs is R1.5k+?

And a Chromecast is pretty bleh for control. Ergonomically, I find a real tactile remote far better than a phone

No , referring to the Android TV Operating System ' minus ' Netflix certification ' equals ' a R899 box with Google certification.

From what I have read in the past - a Chromecast( including the Ultra ) just plays whatever needs to be played better than most - it just works.

The built-in Chromecast function that comes with Android TV OS boxes , is not the same experience that you get from a Chromecast dongle apparently.

Occasionally we seem to get problems with youtube that go away after an app update. Are you able to reliably reproduce this?

Thanks for reply... That sucks... The box was bargain though for just over R400 on fnb ebucks, but without Netflix makes it lose value. I'm not for the rooting option, dnt want to mess with warranty, will wait until they one day decide to have it certified. Cheers

It will still play at 480p, not 720p or 1080p.
Why use a mouse when you can use an airmouse?
