Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Got mine yesterday.
Good build quality. No venting holes.....? Where does the heat go....? Dstv plays excellent quality.
They definitely had a hand in this box. Comes preloaded with dstvnow, showmax and a app where you can buy or rent movies....
Didn't dstv have that....
Where does that money go? And there is some new releases on there.......
Don't know about sideloading. ...
But you can't turn on unknown sources......
Unknown sources will be under the developer option,click on build number a couple of times to activate developer options
 
Hey folks. Received my delivery from Takealot yesterday. Quality of packaging was much better than expected for a box this price, so I was pretty excited. :)
The installation was pretty easy at first. It paired with its remote control.
Then and it paired with my phone and Google account using the network and on-screen codes.

Now I have this unfortunate problem:
At the end of that process it asks for language selection (picked English) and then GETS STUCK ON "CHECKING FOR UPDATES".

It did not move from there in the 12 hrs that I left it and there seems to be no network activity (I had plugged it into ethernet port on my fibre router before installing.)
I have restarted several times now and it always boots to the language selection screen, after which it again gets stuck on the "CHECKING FOR UPDATES" screen. I found no way to skip past this. It only responds to the power, volume and back buttons in this state.
Funny things is that I can actually chrome cast to the device from my phone at this point, so it hardly seems as if there is any problem with connectivity.

I would like to perform a factory reset, but cannot figure out how. There are no buttons on the unit, no manual in the box (just a quick start leaflet) or on the web, and the device only appears to respond to the remote late in the boot process.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have you guys mailed the support address? They got back to me fairly quickly.

Hi All,

I managed to load android chrome and installed apk's from chrome. Have netflix, freeflix hq and stremio running with no issues. Used my pc, installed chrome remotely to the skyworth box. Hope this will help someone. Only thing is chrome and netflix does not show up in you apps short cuts. You need to open it from apps in settings. The box works really well.

Ah which explains why it isn't on the Skyworth site under products.

Is it ICASA approved, I wonder?

I received mine yesterday. Set it up and also had the checking for updates issue. I changed the language to English UK. Thereafter it worked fine. Hope this works for you

Great to see the passthrough issue is on the radar.

Do you know anything about 4K YouTube support (and possibly HDR)? I'm guessing that's also some validation process that needs to happen with Google?
