Hi bef0k. Did you get sorted out. The guys at Skyworth were very helpful to me. Sorted and it's working like a bomb.
 
Great to see the passthrough issue is on the radar.

Do you know anything about 4K YouTube support (and possibly HDR)? I'm guessing that's also some validation process that needs to happen with Google?

Could you get us a link to a problem Youtube video? our engineers have 4k working on this build, so we would like to investigate the issue.


There were some limitations with the initial libraries, so we are also looking at the HDR issue. The new software should resolve it, but it is still under testing.

Received my Skyworth box yesterday. This box is made for Dstv , Showmax and youtube. There is no web browser, you cant install apk's. The playstore is very limited. my old smart tv's play store has more options. unknown sources is disabled and you cant enable it.My opinion, rather go for a mi box. This is only a high level multi choice media player.

My question : can one install Apks ? Since Unknown sources option is greyed out , developer options then and how exactly to activate it ? Or not possible ?

Unfortunately that review is not entirely fair, though we try not to censor. The web browser limitation is a google issue. We do not prevent installing apks in any way, but neither do we directly support it. The method by which one installs apks is different on Android 8 to Android 7. Now you need to enable applications individually with the rights to install apks whereas before it was global.

You can do this by using something like ES File manager and trying to install an APK and it will take you to the settings. You can also enable developer options and do so by remote adb. 3rd party APKs are used at your own risk, and we do recommend you know what you are doing.


Edit:We have no policy against Netflix, and we do not deliberately exclude them.

None I've tried work at 4K.

Hi Craig. Unfortunately mine is still stuck. Returning to Takealot for a swap out.

The support team from Skyworth was also very friendly and responsive and tried to assist me by providing a "reset to factory setting" solution that involves booting with a special file they provided placed on a USB stick. Unfortunately this did not work for me. (By that I mean it did not reset the unit.) Is this the same process you followed?
 
I received mine yesterday. Set it up and also had the checking for updates issue. I changed the language to English UK. Thereafter it worked fine. Hope this works for you

I did try that Cyrus without any success - thank you for the suggestion
 
Hey guys. I bought the box and love it so much I got another. When receiving the other one I cannot view a usb drive. If I plug it in it asks me to open it using es file explorer but then can't view it.

Now suddenly I have the same problem on the first one I bought, even though I just watched a movie off the USB.

Any ideas?
 
Side note - my external mouse still works on both so the port is not faulty, and the device can see the drive. But VLC and es explorer both cannot view the drive.

We do have a known issue with NTFS drives which should be fixed in the next software update. For the device that stopped working (if I understand you correctly?), please make sure that USB Debugging is off in developer options if you have enabled that, and also try a different file manager.
 
I am really impressed with the support so far. This is my 5th Android TV box and by the best and cheapest.....

I will try another file explorer and format the drive as FAT32 to see if it resolves the issue.

Do you suggest any file explorers?

ouch, NTFS support is a big requirement :cry:
