Sleep issue, with data apps!

I have a strange problem on a Samsung Galaxy Y Pro, running Android 2.3.6.

GTalk and WhatsApp is installed, wifi and data are on and working, however when the phone goes into standby ie the screen locks then GTalk and WhatsApp go offline so the only way the user gets the message you send is when they unlock the screen.

I've compared all the settings of the apps and the data settings to my SGS2 and I can't find a difference, does anyone have a clue where to look to solve this.

I'm not sure, but you can try in settings for each app, check the little synch box.

Works on my Galaxy Note.
