That's when you buy it cash. If he wants to get the Slipstream on a Top Up contract, he's gonna have to pay in for it. And although its not advertised, they can create a deal for him on that contract with that slipstream.

I'm am really impressed with the Software for the Slipstream Modem. You have facilities to load airtime and load data bundles(using USSD commands) from the dashboard!

Its like having ginggs app merged with VMC... ITS PERFECT!

I think i should speak to the boss about getting me one of these for "Testing" purposes...

As far as my knowledge goes Thetalogix are the local distributors of the product in South Africa. Goggaconnect are also resellers of the Slipstream modem.

Is the slipstream and vista 64bit compatible? Im going for the 2gig contract and Vodacom wants a once off R239 for the slipstream modem. Do you think it is worth it. And is it compatible with the future 3.6 speed?

AFAIK it is Vista 64bit compatible. And yes its 3.6Mbps capable.

I just don't like the R239 up front!!??
It is a good modem it can support 7.2 in the future but how long is that going to take to get too 7.2 ??

Save the R239 go for the E220. There is loads of knowledge here on the Forum on the E220 & it works well. In 2 years time you can upgrade to the then latest versions of usb 7.2 capable modem's.

Slipstream and contract info

I’m currently on PPDB and might just go contract. Just need more info about some things.

1. The Slipstream modem; what model is it?

2. The T1200 has an embedded flash drive of UP TO 2 Gig; if I sign a contract do I get one with 2Gig?

3. I want to keep my current pre-paid number when I change it to contract. Is that a problem?

4. What are my options on contract? 12 or 24 months, 1G or 2G?

5. If I sign the contract and price for data drops do I benefit from that or will I be paying the old price till the contract expires?

6. I want to use my current E220 and the Slipstream. One at home and the other at work. Therefore I will need an extra sim card. Two sim cards but only ONE contract, ONE bundle and NO extra charges for this. Is this possible? (MTN’s dual sim cost me a lot of money because their system screwed things up badly and I had to cancel the dual sim just to get my bill back in order, I don’t want to go through that again)

7. Do I get the extended high gain antenna also? If not how do I get it?

8. If all of this is not a problem where do I sign up and what can I show the rep that he/she knows what I want and that it is doable.

Who and what is Thetalogix

They are local, South African company. The slipstream modem is designed and manufactured in South Africa, so I am lead to believe by a Director of the company. If it truly is so then well done.

Slipstream

Yes Vodacom is offering Slipstream Modems .
These work both with MTN & Vodacom 32KB SIMMS (tested right now in Westville, Durban) and both seem to give about 400Kb/sec down and about 30Kb/sec up right now .

Software seems better than Vodacom/Vodafone dash board - recharges now possible using the slipstream software. And device is much better than PCCard.PCMCIA modem - no error 619 yet .

However, be aware - Vodacom shops aparently unaware that Slipstreams (made by Thetalogix) include some models with up to 2GB flash drives .

Thetalogix only had 1GB flash versions available when I queried though and this was after I bought mine from Vodacom for R2500. The Vodacom flash drive on the Slipstream modem (256MB on mine) has apparently been disabled and only 10MB of the flash drive is used as an emulated CD file system. The remaining 248MB visible on my Slipstream is apparently not available. Dont know why they did not create 2 partitions on the flash but still....

The 10MB emulated CD file system contains the slipstream software which is also available from Thetalogix for download.

Plugging in the Slipstream causes the new USB mass storage device to be installed, the emulated CD file system to mount and autorun to install the software. for 1st install on a PC a restart is needed.

Hey all.

Spoke to Randyll at Thetalogix - quite helpfull if anyone needs help.

Also got 1300Kb/sec down and 300Kb/sec down yesterday using my slipstream with Vodacom SIMM (VC & MTN SIMM work in it) while downloading map data.

Its a more expensive device, its only logical for a pay-in. Lets say the E270 comes out later? Logically... the pay-in will probably be more.

Is this now Economic's 101. Oh I see they aint making enought money, with the basic contract price, so a once of R249 will make up for that. They are thinking out of the box, out of the walet.

1&2. Best to find out at a Vodashop.
3. That depends on the sim provider. I had a prepaid sim that couldn't be converted because it was from Smartcall or something. However with the new porting systems, this situation may have changed.
4. 24 month. 500MB, 1GB, 2GB and 5GB.
5. During the last price decrease contract subscribers also benefited.
6. No too sure - Vodashop should have more info.
7. The Slipstream modem comes with a built in high gain antenna so it looks kind of like a clam shell phone.
