Hey peeps
I have, over the past 2 years, become more and more internet dependant using ADSL. The thought of going away to the south coast in the latter part of December, and then to the USA in January, without an internet connection, was quite daunting (damn...I think I am becoming a computer geek!!!) Anyway, I decided 2 days ago to get a 3g/hsdpa modem to take with me on my travels. I scanned this site extensively to try and find out what the best system would be. I was going to go for an MTN E620 - the cheapest option I could find, at R 1350.00 incl. But at the last moment decided to change my mind and get a slipstream (R2299.00 from I.C) based on positive comments on this site - in particular, one guy from westville/durban who raved about it.
I got mine going yesterday. What a great unit. Extremely sensitive, has no trouble getting an HSDPA connection at 4 bars from my home. I like the idea of the flip up high gain antenna, and...the external antenna connection on the back !!!!! if the flip antenna can't pull in a distant tower, simply connect an external high gain yagi or omni. What also helped my decision, is that these are designed and built right here in Centurion, so back-up should be excellent. Also...provision for future network upgrades have been taken care of, with its ability to run at 3.6 and also 7.2 with a small mod !!!!
It loads super fast with the software built-in to the unit. I tried it with my vista laptop and also xp laptops - I was on the I.H in under 5 mins.
One question...I recently bought a new Apple iMac (great computer btw), has anyone been able to get the slipstream to work with Mac's ? I haven't tried as yet. One other thing....is the slipstream able to be connected to the Linksys wireless router - the one that takes the 3g card in the top, so I can share my connection ?
Thanks and 73, John

Thanks V3G, I see you moved my post, sorry if I had not put it in the correct place. You are doing a great job here, keep it up.
If I click on Network Settings, I dont see a Broadband Cell Type option.
This is what I see ....

That was the problem, thanks. I was using an older version of the software that did'nt have those options.
I have now downloaded the latest version and its all good now.
Thanks again.
Hi I recently upgraded my contract and have aquired the new 3g slipstream modem. I connect fine and surf fine, the only issue i have is the modem keeps disconnecting itself and the slipstream launchpad software says that the modem cannot be found. It works perfectly sometimes, but occasionaly it will disconnect , the usb unplug noise comes up, the system says a new hardware device has been found and a error has occured. So i unplug the modem, put it back in and it connects fine thereafter??? Any ideas??? I PLay alot of Dota ie Warcraft 3 so its not kool when u in a middle of a game and u get disconnected as i get punished....???
@Iam3G, it sounds more like a USB &| Windoze issue than a network switching issue...
