Slow international bandwidth

Hi

As per the post just before mine, I have noticed international bandwidth has slowed dramatically recently.

I have run the www.speedtest.net bandwidth speed test to a test site in New York. I have a 1Mb/s ADSL line with Telkom Internet. I've been getting download speeds between 400 and 550kb/s with upload speeds of around 330kb/s. (So uploads don't seem to be a problem)

Tests to a Joburg server (I'm in Cape Town) are giving speeds much closer to 1Mb/s.

This is particularly visible when trying to view something like a Youtube video, which can hardly play without stopping to buffer every 2-3 seconds.

The problem seems to be consistent at all times i.e. not only during high peak times like early evening.

I'd be interested for others on the forum to test using the speedtest site and see what you're getting.

It is definitely a recent (last few weeks) thing.

Thanks
Cliffc

Speedtest to JHB from PE:

And to NY:

Seacom ftw! I'm not just being facetious either, my speeds to NY were around the 2.5 to 3mb mark before Seacom announced they were live about 3 weeks ago.

Not good

Thx Perelson

Something has definitely changed...

As expected, moggie. I'm going to drop my line back to 384kb (at the ridicule of my oversea's friends) - and in the process save myself a few hundred bucks.

Spare Cash for CAP

Rather spend that spare cash on CAP. ;)

You can go from "cough-mixture" to "codeine" -- but NOTHING is worse than "cold-turkey" :erm::D

I can't even look at your "speedtest" results :(
