I have a Huawei B618 router in our living room...speeds on the HTPC average between 90-105mb download.

Another cable is running from the router to another room where my pc and my son's pc is sitting. When doing speedtest the highest we get is 25-30mb.

Have used a 10/100 hub and also used my spare Dlink G225 Telkom branded router and got the same slow speeds from both devices.

Why is it that we get the lower speeds but the speed in the living room is so high?

It is simply the way that Mother Nature treats damduikers.
But seriously, perhaps it is due to the software that is different on the HTPC compared to the other computers? (Not just the OS settings, but also antivirus settings, etc.)
Alternatively, perhaps a glitch in the networking hardware firmware? (Unless the other PC's are not identical, of course.)

The HTPC is a Dell Optiplex 3020 machine.
B618 has 2 ports at the back...one is going from router to HTPC and the other port/cable from the router to the other room where the pc's are.

But for one or other reason on hub and router we get 25-30mb max.

Try switching ports around on the router. (Same cables, but going into different ports.)
Also, bypass the hub and test one PC at a time.

OK...B618 with Afrihost is next to the HTPC (Dell Optiplex 3020) in the livivng room.

The other PC's are in the Gaming room. Took another cable through roof into a Dlink G225 router as a hub for the 2 PC's.

The HTPC where the B618 is gets 80-105mb download. The PC's in the gaming room gets between 20-30mb.

I know the B618 only has 2 ports (1x LAN and 1x LAN/WAN).

Where should the HTPC cable be plugged in? LAN or the other? and also the gaming room cable?
Any tutorial would really help seeing as the other 2 PC's should also get those speeds?
