Smart light switches

Connex is Tuya but yep takes about 3 plus seconds.

Hoping Shelly faster. Read it was fast.

our house had these old old square switches ( size of a plug)

Considered using sonoff minis?

I have,

My issue is the old switches are these mixture of bakelite, springs, and about 80 years of crap,

they starting to show signs of incoming failure and need replacing, went around to a few hardware places ( and acdc) and cant find the correct size. I was the "smart" functionality as well as being able to switch the room light on and off with a button of sorts

Havent bought in ages from them.

The 2 x 2 button and 3 x 3 button , with shipping R1450 and some change

Installed a shelly but its very slow?

Has to connect to wifi everytime whilst my Sonoffs and Tuya devices are online constantly?

If you have not already, create a dedicated SSID @ 2.4 gig only ( no 5 gig) and couple the IoT devices to this SSID. Many IoT devices have issues if a WiFi SSID includes both bands.

Busy installing the le grand switches with shellies behind them. 10x nicer aesthetic than the sonoff glass switches

But hows the connection. I find it frustratingly slow vs my sonoffs and tuya switches.

First installed shellies years ago sooner after they released.

Response is quick but I use HA to control them and not the shelly app.

I also use my paradox sensors as sensors for the lights and it probably takes around 1 second to switch the light on

Which Shelly is slow?
The Motion?

I'd be surprised if mine was slower than 0.5 second

Nope simply Shelly 1! It keeps having to connect in Shelly app. Seems its asleep /offline and must wake up and reconnect everytime. My other devices are quick!

Deleted it from Google Home because kept showing being offline.

I have updated firmware so not sure why. Thought Shellys run locally?

My mesh is 780mbps. Device signal is good.

Shelly 1 doesn't sleep - I can only imagine there is something else wrong. If it goes offline, it's either faulty or the wifi coverage isn't great in that area. They have tiny antenna, but it has to be one or the other.

They can work without cloud - but if WiFi coverage is the issue, you're all going to have an issue. I actually think you can see WiFi quality within in the app in About or Details or something.

For local , go to I/O settings and read up about direct device to device (DDD) communication

FYI - some of you, like me, may have tried to install a Shelly only to find that the light switch has no neutral.

I was about to give up, when i found that tucked behind the switch socket was neutral cables cut-off and insulated.

I would imagine when older houses have been re-fitted, they got rid of neutral in the switch but the house was wired for it already so its just sitting there, usually tucked behind or back into the conduit. So before you give up try look for it :)
