Smart light switches

Yeh I don't want to pay that for a doorbell. I tell you why though.

I have a normal Intercom type thing outside, and it's getting a bit annoying now with kids or people looking for food randomly ringing that thing, late at night, or early morning..

So all I want, is to see if I can just find a solution, where the notifications comes through to my phone, which will also be annoying, but at least at night I can mute my phone. The RF solution bell Saba'a posted might just work, if I get a Sonoff bridge.

Exactly why I went the smart doorbell+camera solution and ripped out my intercom.

That and my dog barked every time the Intercom rang. Now I can mute it or i just change what Google Home TTS announces when the doorbell rings. (The dog eventually learned that Google Home announcing "somebody rang the doorbell" meant somebody was outside and proceeded to bark)

What doorbell and camera do you have?

Mind sharing how camera is mounted?

I am considering moving the Argus 2 and mounting on the gate.

Looking for options to mount Argus 2 on the gate and not walls. I feel its more secure from theft although not really a major issue.

Nothing fancy. Probably not the most secure but we live in an enclosed neighborhood and crime is generally low.

If I am installing smart light switches for a passage/staircase lighting - where there are 2 switches one on either end (2-way) - do both switches have to be smart? Or I only need to make one switch smart.
A switch like the Sonoff TX

Only one. See my 3 way switch ad in the classifieds. Or pm/dm me

Thanks. I ordered a variety of Sonoffs (mini, basic and a T0 light switch) from Geewiz, still waiting for the delivery to try them out with help from an electrician friend.

But needs to be a 3 way smart switch. If you want manual switch on/off.

Good day, anyone know if these smart mechanical switches would work as dumb switches when there's no wifi and when there's loadshedding? I am going to replace some switches that have these loadshedding bulbs. Not sure if the capacitance with the neutral and live would cause the bulbs to remain on. I see some switches use a capacitor instead of neutral, not sure if there would a conflict. Thanks.

I've tried to use loadshedding bulbs with a relay (think it was a sonoff) and it didn't work.

I’ve only had a problem with LEDs when NOT fitting the capacitor and not using a neutral.

When using a neutral they stay off and I believe the capacitor is there specifically to solve this problem for LEDs.

Hi all, the below switch had a dimmer in it. The dimmer is no longer working, but I was considering replacing with a smart switch anyway. Does anyone know what the pink wire is? And is the black wire neutral?

I don't know WTF is going on here, BUT.

If the black wire is connected to any big metal part, like a metal box or the metal plate for the switches, it is most probably ground. Take a multimeter and check for continuity from that black wire, to lets say a plug point's ground. Should confirm it.

The pink might be neutral....but you need to test it with a multimeter. You can get one for cheap at any hardware store. Most can test continuity and 220v AC. Which is the 2 tests you need to do before guessing and making changes. Highly recommend it.

I would rather recommend getting an electrician to look at this. It could turn out to be a very expensive DIY experiment...
