Smart technology for ODM and TopTV

good news, bad news is ok refused to sell me a toptv decoder saying they took a lot of flak from customers because installers are refusing to install toptv due to non payment,i notified their call centre, nothing so far.

Great article, some interesting details.

All I want is a dedicated HD sport package and I'll be on board :D

nice article...glad toptv is in the game and things didnt go t1ts up on launch. Only good can come from this competition.

Although - watching SWC on SSHD is hard to compete with.

That explains it... I have both Top TV and DStv (Select 1) at the moment. I watched the world cup on SABC 1 on both TopTV and DStv. To my suprise, the picture is crystal clear on DStv (just a standard decoder) compared to TopTV. Before I switched to DStv, I was wondering why the pitch was dull, only to find out that it's really superb when I viewed the same on DStv. The picture quality on the satellite link for DStv is better than the one used by TopTV. I wonder why they claim that they have superior picture quality.

Once you taste Sport in HD, there's no going back, they would make a killing if they have something to counter supersport HD.

i heard toptv has lots of problems, installations not happening signal loss etc.

What dish are you using.

Great article, I wonder what channels they'll have lined up for HD. Can't wait and so far, I'm very happy with my TopTV, find myself watching more TTV than DStv (which I only really am keeping for the sport)

Could DStv not be applying some picture filters maybe?

I also noticed that. Kinda disappointing.

I think a lot depends on the quality of the channel itself, Discovery Science comes through beutifully.

toptv has a problem with installers,OK refused to sell me a toptv decoder because installers claim toptv owes then lots of money

As a subscriber from 4th day of launch I still feel that they need to look at a few things to really shine.

(1) The EPG (electronic program guide) is hated by the better half, I am still trying to decide if I love or hate it.
There was a problem with the shows times being out of sync, with the EPG, but this seems to be resolved, however the summary is chopped of sometimes and one cannot get info on actors etc in the summary. This brings me to next point...

(2) A paper guide. It is far better being able to look at a mag and circle shows you want to watch than scroll thru days and hours on screen. Yes I know there are websites where one can read online, but paper is more user friendly... and that brings us to the next point...

(3) Website - come on folks you are competing against DSTV...get your website jacked up! I don't want to read about movie highlights for May in the middle of June! Why is it that a third party company can do a better online EPG than TopTV the broadcaster - compare if you dare... http://nantage.nanfo.com/nantage.php compared to TopTV http://www.toptv.co.za/tvguide

(4) Scheduling and AutoTune - the TopTV decoder allows you a POP-UP block to REMIND you that a program is about to start, similar to the banner feature of DSTV. I have yet to find the auto-tune option...really miss that on the device...

TopTv is in the business of entertaining, and the only way they can be successful is if they show people what is to offer.
Come on TopTv folks you need to step up your game or else you run the risk of loosing clients in the long run.

menu/settings/user setup/notifications/reminder auto tune---yes

Problem is,you can only set it on 1 minute as absolute minimum, which is still fcking irritating.I mostly end up pressing accept cuz the fcking banner block my view.

I hate it when i change channels and the bottom part of the GUI doesn't change with... or is it just me doing something wrong?
