Hello there, I would really value some input/recommendations on the best product to buy for converting my not so smart TV to snart. I have fibre and want to link to streaming services. Thanks very much

There are a big range of local and import options for TV Boxes. I would suggest you get something at least on Android 6.0. The general item with that would be the S905X or the RK3229 chipset. The RK chipset is a lot newer. I would suggest the below item from GearBest. It does take a week or two to get here via Aramex but is cheaper then the local option. It is up to you though. Locally, they generally sell for +-R800. Just ensure that whichever version you get, it comes with Kodi.

Like GearBestZA said, you can also load up Showmax on the AndroidTV, just make sure you are up to date with Google Play services...

A new Amazon Fire TV Stick $39.
There are plenty "Android 6" boxes that do not work.

EDIT: Fire Stick will struggle with 10 bit HEVC. A reason is MALI 450 GPU. For full 10 bit HEVC support you would need a full Fire TV box.

I can play Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showmax, DSTV Now(sideloaded), Apple Music(Sideloaded) if you have a subscription with Apple, Google Play Music, Local and International Radio stations, Youtube, Showbox, And more.

Some of them have such low specs, I can't even think how it is possible to run Android on it.. I would buy one who is already rooted, and clean out all the bloat off the ROM... Even modified Kodi versions, and load up the proper one. And install what I need... They have loaded up so many repositories, it kinda breaks Kodi.

It really does depend on budget. I have a 2gb ram Android 6.0 TV box based on the Amlogic s905x chipset and it has been awesome. No lag, no delays and I tested 4k media on it with no issues.

The app support is not as big tho. So DSTV Now doesn't work atm but I am looking into finding a way to get it up and running. Apple music, I am not sure. Showmax, Netflix, etc are supported.
