Looking at a big screen TV 55". Should I choose a smart TV?
Any recommendations / great deals?
Is the make very important for quality and after sales service?
Thanks

Personally I can't stand smart TVs - my retarded Samsung gets so slow with the LAN cable connected - I have no idea what the hell it's doing. Probably backing up my life to the internet...

:D Can't say I ever felt my TV getting slower (connected WI-FI). I only use netflix and youtube from the smart apps.

OP, what sort of budget ? Do you want 4K ?

If you are planning on using Netflix and/or Showmax then I would recommend a smart tv. Yes you can also run those through an android box or an x box etc. but it's just so much easier having 1 remote than does everything.

If you have an option not to take the smart tv, choose the one without it. Just my personal opinion. I still regret buying my 40" smart tv over the 55" plasma not smart. Rather get an xbox or ps4 that will make your setup much smarter. I have a Samsung and it hasn't given me any problems. I actually don't know of people that had issues with the tvs and that spans a lot of brands. LG, Hisense, Sony etc. Also don't fall for all the gimmicks I did. 3D tv etc - you don't use it. 600CMR. Just go to the store and look at the picture and see if you are happy with it.

Netflix is a pain on the tv - on my ps4 as well, but much less so - I am almost getting used to it and you get content that will play on your 5.1 system. On my samsung I won't be able to make use of that content.

The youtube app also stopped being supported on my tv - so no more youtube for my tv - I don't think that will be a problem for my ps4 though.

Normal 55" Samsung.

Rather get 4K instead of the SmartTV…

I would recommend a Minix or MyGica to do the smart stuff. And cheaper to upgrade when needed.

And an AV amp that can switch 4K HDMI would be something to consider also.

Depends on your needs.

Are you going to be watching any streaming services, youtube etc?

I've used it a few times but prefer to watch everything through OSMC

You pretty much don't get non-smart TVs these days, it's honestly not something I would even worry about though. Get a TV for its picture quality and value.

It all really depends on your budget.

Cheap and nasty Smart TV's are exactly that and really should be avoided.

More premium class TV's actually have decent Smart functions.
