So. when I initially went for the Bird (cookoo) smart watch, i t was more of an impulse buy than anything else at the time.

Further down the line, and I see the Gear, Moto watch, Pebble etc.. A while back I was thinking, is the cookoo watch the ideal type of smart watch whereby only notification alerts are sent through to the watch, instead of full on messages etc. I get the fact that perhaps people would want more of a remote type access of ones phone, whereby you can reply and see what the actual messages, calendar events etc are, rather than just an alert.

Am I the only one who prefers just an alert rather than a full blown message? In fact, am I the only one who thinks a smart watch is a handy gadget? Lol

Most of the things I've read about smart watches are or were not favourable. Maybe times have changed, and its more of an in demand item now. I quite like the Moto watch, and the Pebble is nice too. In fact, the Cookoo (hate the name BTW) is a very nice looking watch on its own, and the same with the Cogito watch.

Any thoughts on this guys?

I like the idea, but they need to work more on the execution. Being able to read emails fully would make it worth my while.

Only issue with the Cookoo is the constant loss of connection. Being a kick starter project, it certainly has fallen by the way side a bit. I have to say though, that just as a watch, it's bulky, but a solid watch. The Martian watch is another beautiful smart watch, and I know Apple(yuck) lol, will bring out their own watch

Digging up a tad old thread but has anyone got their hands on the LG G watch R yet?

Today's Xmas present was a cookoo and sadly it is not compatible with my Sony and my next upgrade is most likely going to be a sony again so its possible it wont even be supported then ( eta on support i can't find anywhere ).

Now I gotta say that I really love the look and build quality of the cookoo. It's very "clean" looking, feels rugged which is important in the line of work I do and obviously round, typically of what i think a watch should be. How does the G Watch compare in terms of look and build quality. Bulkiness really isn't an issue for me as my Fossil watch isn't far off, weight wise.

I've never really thought of ever getting a smart watch because to me, their primary focus was being a tech gadget and a watch secondary where looking at the cookoo, it's completely the opposite so any advice?

I am at this very moment looking to get a watch of Amazon but like it was said earlier, there are mixed reviews on almost every one.

With regards the Pebble watch, is it a good smartwatch because it does not look appealing from the pictures.

For me it is between the LG G Watch R and the Asus Zenwatch.

I would like to know...with ambient mode, is the watch face always on like it is normally when looking at the watch, or is it a dimmed toned down version?

I don't care about battery life loss (as long as it lasts I get back home), but I would like the watch face to stand out at all times.

Hmmm, both of those look good.

LG specs says that display is always on.

These watches are gradually getting better, may dip my toes in sometime.

I have my eyes on the Pebble Steel. Looks classy. Does everything I want from a smartwatch. It has loads of users and apps. And you don't have to charge it every single day.

I have a G Watch R - It looks good for a smartwatch. With ambient mode, it dims the screen and goes into a monochrome view of the watch face (some do have flashes of colour though, even in ambient mode).

I like that I can read entire messages (chat, email, etc) and with GMail I can archive from the watch (or mark as Done if using Inbox, or mark as read for exchange emails in the standard email client of my Sony Xperia Z3).

I also like that when using navigation, the next turn shows up on my wrist and vibrates when it says "turn now" - I don't have a stand for my phone in the car so this is very useful when using GPS navigation.

Also for apps like Runkeeper, it has an always on display for that app that shows you your speed, time elapsed, distance, etc.

But I don't know if I would recommend anyone buy an Android Wear smart watch now, as it only really provides conveniences and not adding any real functionality that you can't do with a phone (to me anyway).

Maybe with some updates and additional functionality (or more apps to take advantage of it), it will be better.

Thanks for the info!

Can it take pedometer readings whilst away from your phone?

Are the LG smart watch or Samsung watch you are talking about also compatible with iPhone? Is there anyone can be both compatible with Android phones and iPhone? Because I have one XiaoMi phone and one iPhone 5S, it could be better to get one watch for two phones.

I believe the Samsung Gear watches are only compatible with Samsung phones.

This will be compatible with both: https://kairoswatches.com/

why do the makers of the smart watch think that having a pedometer and other such crap are a selling point? A selling point should be that the watch can make and receive calls and receive and send emails and play music and tell the time. Loading apps should be high on the list rather then sell the watch with a built in pedometer which takes up space. Anyway I get spam alerts of pedo's living in my neighbourhood as it is, I don't need to know how many meters away they are too.

My smart watch arrived today and it is damn nice.

Now this one is called the U watch or U8. The nice thing about this watch is that I can receive and make calls on it. I also can play my music and take pics when it is connected to my samsung S2. I get notifications too. For $40 or there abouts, it is not a bad smart watch at all.
