Hi All

I remember seeing someone as smoothwall support, and was hoping i could ask a question. Is it possible to monitor a users internet usage from smoothwall? Reason being my landlord wants to use my dsl via wireless at my office and has offered to pay for his uasage but i need to be able to tell hime what it is. Thx in advance for any helpfull insight...:)

Ook?

What mods have you got installed on your Smoothie?

And what configuration does your Smoothie have at present?

Wouldn't it be easier to set the router to bridge mode and tell him to buy his own prepaid ADSL account.

Excellent suggestion.

The router will already be set to bridged mode should Jimmy have his Smoothie on it - then all that is needed is a long CAT5 cable and the landlord can buy his own adsl airtime.

Problem is, there won't be any load-balancing on the line usage, so if landlord does some heavy downloads, Jimmy's games might suffer.

Another problem is that the office and landlord's PC might be too far away for that to be practical...

If the router is in bridge mode and the landlord is connected via wireless he can still dial a PPPOE connection.

Yes, bridge and all that is great. But it will build goodwill and prosper a good relationship if the tenant offers no frills or *** internet to the landlord. ie the landlord will be impressed etc,etc

wireless and a smoothb0x will be boss.

Ok.

Take note - I am not sure about the "legality" of this whole thing as Icasa might confiscate your equipment... but it is doable.
