Nonsense, they are worse cars. Chana, erm Tata and ummm ok that's it. Yea Slowpels are pretty damn crappy (except an OPC if you find one that doesn't break). VW for the win!

Why do I see so little broken Opels and loads of rubbish VWs as I am cruising in my Astra that just done 161111km ? Check my posts here - I have footage that shamed VW countless times because it is a car for common people with no imagination and a lack of class and style.
True - the Opel style is that of a could care less 4$$hole that will try to beat you whenever they can - but there are loads of other cars out there with a lot more personallity than VWs.
Thesedays even a white Corolla has more style and elegance than a VW Polo ridin on slicks.

I see plenty broken Opels around Stellenbosch, when I see one (or two) I always think of you! I should start taking pictures but my time is running out, they only sold seven Astras last month
And 160k is hardly an epic mileage.

That's cause Astra is no longer imported and there is no stock left. We'll have to see what supply channels become available now that the Russians are in control of Opel.
In the meantime I'll stick with my Astra or get a Hyundai or Mercedes (if finances permit). Anything but an oh so common VAG.

I've seen both Opel & VW broken down, I've seen plenty of both that smoke, etc. Just depends on how you take care of your car. Just don't get why people call it slowpel, sure it's not the best handling vehicle ever (certainly not the worst IMHO) and not the most reliable either (neither is VW btw.) but it's not slow. Even the slow ones like the Corsa Lite is still pretty nippy considering it's price range.
The Diesel models are terrible tho, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, Diesel just isn't Opel's thing.

Because there are almost none on the road. They just don't sell as many and those that do are on the scrapheap within 5 years, except yours that doesn't get any kilo's on its odometer. In the garage most of the time?

my 2003 polo comfortline has just clocked 230000km. It's still going wonderfully, the interior looks brand new. With regular service intervals and a full valet twice a year, you'd be hard pressed to guess the km's this car has achieved.
