SMS spam in SA is a growing problem

Made a mental note to check my debit order next month. My SP is Nashua and I'm on fixed monthly deal. If these scumbags dare subscribe me, I'll let Nashua sort it out.

I do that too. Spam calls are now almost non-existent.

My record is 45 mins (but I cheated - went back every 10 mins or so and told them to hang on I am still busy with "something" urgent)

hehehehe I wonder how long they will keep doing it if they are losing money... if everyone did this there would be no more cold calls

now if only I could figure out a way to get them to pay a lot for the sms's they use.

I would love how to know that too.

On another note I still have an issue with a particular email from Warren Lake <[email protected]>. and i've unsubscribed numerous times and i still get the emails :mad: What to do? I could write a program to spam him back, but I dont know how to do it as an anonymous person. *sigh*

I react in the exact same way. If I get spam from someone I want nothing to do with them nevermind giving them money and just about everyone I know feels the same.

Much more effective than swearing at them. Some have a thick skin, but no patience.:D

plus the poor sod at the other end is only doing a job - cost the company money without damaging the person....

Others recommended that consumers report spammers to WASPA or the Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMA).

So: you approach Your Mobile Company and say that the spammers are not members of WASPA or the DMA and they all (bar Cell C) "recommend" that you report this to WASPA / DMA. At the same time they profit directly at data rates for premium messages which bear markups which are massive.

Sorry - that is not good enough and their customers should let them know that.

As for Cell C - glad to see that they have figured it is better being outside the tent and pissing into it...

Oh HIM!!! Yes, I've had some email from Mr Lake. I eventually got hold of him on a cellphone number you can find on Google. Sec: 082-859-5447.

There you go.

I threatened him with legal action (for not being able to tell me where he got my details, as he is required to by law) and that I would lay a complaint of harrassment against him with the police. Never heard from him again.

Signed up a MTN prepaid for my fiance once, on my details, and two hours later got our first sms. A Spam from Milady's. I was unhappy.

Keep getting random phone calls asking my to buy stuff, but they can never tell me where my number came from. Am I able to do something about this?

By law, they must be able to tell you. If they can't tell you, tell them by law you are obliged to open a case with the police and they must please provide you their details.

To the best of my knowledge the networks recycle mobile numbers after a month of no billing...it appears they are not doing an automatic mass unsubscribe on these numbers before recycling.
