Hello

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 home basic

I loaded outlook and it gives me the error

Task (1) - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Can anyone assist??

I have double checked the smtp address and I have tried it on another email client

I can ping the smtp server with good results

Which version of Outlook did you install? When you tried it with the another mail client did it send? What sort of send transaction are you using (plain, SSL, etc), including the port? Can you connect successfully using telnet to the mail server's SMTP port, for example

telnet <mailserver adress> 25

I would investigate the authentication settings ("My Server Requires Authentication", "Login Using Secure Password Authentication" - even though that is used for receiving, etc).

using outlook 2010 and thunderbird too but no luck sending, can only receive

unable to telnet smtp.afirhost.co.za 25 or just telnet smtp.afrihost.co.za

authentication settings - no luck there

:(:(:(:(:(:(

Firewall? Just a shot in the dark there. Was everything working fine prior to the W7 Home Basic conversion?

yes im a client of afrihost and connected via them

all worked fine then boooom

i even disabled the firewall
