smtp.vodacom.co.za

I make use of the spamcop service, http://www.spamcop.net/, I always report every single spam email that i receive. Sometimes up to about 5 per day. I have in the past received spam from smtp.vodacom.co.za, every single one of these emails, reported to spamcop.

Reporting unsolicited email to spamcop feeds other ISP spam filtering systems. This in turn causes some smtp servers to get black listed.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with sending mail using smtp.vodacom.co.za ?

I cant send mail today disconnected a few times to grab a new IP.
I can ping the server but it doesnt send mail.

Help plz

Ok I switched it to smtp.vodamail.co.za and that worked.
Whats up with smtp.vodacom.co.za v3g ?

BTW I called helpdesk (155) about 10min before posting and I'm still holding.
30min still holding....

Vodacom SMTP Sucks

Well last week it was blacklisted and today it is just plain broken. I have some urgent emails to send off and well, no luck. For crying in bucket why
is this such a difficulty the concept of "reliable email" seems to escape them.

Ok thats the end of my rant, I feel *slightly* better now.

Crap, sorry I should not have started a new thread I see it has allready been discussed elsewhere.

as much as that is a solution to his problem its still doesnt answer his 2nd question, why is reliable fast email such a rare thing? it seems if you dont have your own smtp server on a diginet line you pretty much have no hope in hell

Bullfrog Is The Man

Just signed up with Gmail.
Brilliant, works really well - and it is only slightly slower than vodacom's piece of trash server. Thanks Bullfrog :) :)

Glad I could be of help :D

The problem with a shared mail server is it's totally out of your control. So if a user decides to spam the world the server will get blaclisted and your emails will get deleted by the recipients server. As much as the ISP tries to prevent this there will almost always be issues like that because it's out of their control. There are some preventative measures that they can take but none of them are full proof.

I have learned never to use email accounts that ISP's give you because if you want to start using a different ISP you're kind of stuck. Appart from that, very few of them can give any sort of reliable service in terms of email. So now I either use the free and fast services like google, who I know have thousands of computers interlinked in such a way that they will almost never go down or just use the mail server on my own server :p

I do not use there pop email, but for sending mail I have always been stuck using the ISP's smtp server. Of course this really sucks because when you change networks on your laptop from ADSL to 3G you then have to change your mail settings everytime which is a hassle. At least this will not be needed anymore!

For sure,

We're also busy checking why we suddenly had two blacklistings in the last two weeks. It's been very clean for the last year.

Some bugger probably found a rule we've not yet got in place, but another server out there knows about. The guys are following up.

V3G I think the problem is back.
