Yahoo server settings

pliz help.

iv been lookin high & low for the "working" pop3 server settings for my yahoo mail.im able to send mail using smtp.vodacom.co.za port 25 but i get "login failed" when im trying to download using pop.mail.yahoo.com (my address is @yahoo.com)

do i also have to use smtp & pop3 authentication?Im using a samsung Z140 which runs software close to a D500

Hopefully, I'm not rehashing a dead issue here, but this business of having to change smtp settings all the time is driving me nuts. Quite apart from anything else, performance is inconsistent.

Early last week I was advised by my website hosting co. that I could just set my smtp to a mail.domain.com setting and no problem. Well, it was no problem.... for a week. But this week I'm getting bounces. Not everything bounces, but when they do they're all 553 errors - whether over Vodacom HSDPA or Telkom ADSL.

As usual, everyone is blaming everyone else - definitely nothing wrong with the systems of whomever happens to be on the phone and no-one has changed any settings over the weekend. Ultimately it's the erratic behaviour that is so confusing.

Now all that to say this - there really has to be a better solution for mobile folk without giving our lives over to webmail based systems.
 
Thanks for the response. At this point I'm assuming nothing. I've seen too many wierd glitches and been fed enough BS not to jump to conclusions.

I'm actually pretty confident it's not an ISP problem between me and my mail smtp server. One of the tests involved multiple recipients - some got through, some did not, and profiling showed it was really a bounce from the recipient's server.

The strangest one was where a bounce message came back, but the mail still got through, albeit a lttle delayed!!

I tacked onto this thread because a forum search showed this to have kind-of tackled the issue already in a way.

My main thrust is that there must be a workable solution to the mobile emailer problem out there, and if not, there is a need for one. Being a mobile issue it is valid to pose in a 3G/HSDPA forum. I preferred the Vodacom one over others because my experince of Vodacom, and particularly v3g, is that I can at least trust the answer - more than I can say about some other ISPs' representatives I've "communicated" with over recent years.

I operate across 4 ISP's to deal with various accessibility issues, so I'm in an unusually good place to test functionality across a wider spectrum than most and get near instant results.

As an aside: I also question how valid the practice of filtering out remote smtp senders by certain email servers (locally notably Mweb) really is. But that probably belongs elsewhere.
 
I'm having problems sending e-mails. My smpt server is set to: smtp.vodacom.co.za.

I did a ping and it does not look healthy:

I'm pinging smtp.vodacom.co.za as we speak, getting around 400ms with no packet loss.

Do a ping -t on it and let it run a bit longer, say 30 or pings. What's your packet loss?

How is your signal level (how many bars?), location?

Vodacom SMTP

Hi all

Not sure if this has been covered before but is it possible if i can send email while using vodacom 3g as my connection on my laptop with my phone connected as a modem. I tried to use the smtp.vodacom.co.za but it fails to send the email. Is there anyway i can send email with my telkom account while connect above??

Sure you can.

At the place in Outlook/Outlook Express where you specify smtp.vodacom.co.za as your outgoing mail server, select the option "My server requires authentication". Insert your Vodacom username and password here. Then you can send e-mails when connected to either vodacom or telkom.
 
Or use smtp.saix.net with your Telkom username and password to send e-mail from your Telkom account while connected to Vodacom.

This should work without setting any username or password. smtp.vodacom.co.za does not require usernames or authentication.

What error messages are you getting?

Smtp server - attachments not being sent

Hi all

Is anyone else having trouble sending emails with attachments? Plain emails are being sent fine, but anything with an attachment is being timed out.
