smtp.vodacom.co.za

I heard the SA post office took over all mail systems in South Africa! Sounds familiar!
 
I thought that there was a problem on the 22nd but found out that the server I sending the mail to had the problem.

Many recipients or only one? If one then problem is probably with recipient i.e. incorrect address, full mailbox, rule etc.
 
Server down??

Hi all, I am having problems sending email on laptop at the moment, I get the message "Unable to connect to server".
Can anyone spot my problem - my settings are: smtp.vodacom.co.za
Server name vodacom
Port 25
I have tried "use password" ON and OFF, and secure connection "No" and "TLS, if available", nothing seems to work....
Please help have URGENT email to send!

Can you recieve emails? If so then you email accoutn is working and then there must a problem with vodacom,. if you cant recieve then I suggest test the mail settings. and confirm that your account details are correct...
 
Solved

Hi, resolved problem; I changed "server name" to "smtp.vodacom.co.za".
Didn't think the NAME of the server would affect things...?
Or else there was a temporary problem which just happened to get sorted out while I was renaming server!

That field is actually the URL of the server and not a local name, so it must be able to resolve (via DNS) to the correct IP Address.

! believe that's what you assumed, i.e. it's just a name for your own use?

smtp.vodacom.co.za is it working?

I got my upgrade on thursday (N70) and I set it up to work with gmail yesterday. I could send once with smtp.gmail.com but not again. I can download my mail perfectly fine.
I did a search here and it was suggested I use smtp.vodacom.co.za as my outgoing server, but it has not worked even once for me.
Is the server down at the moment, and how come I can't just use smtp.gmail.com all the time?

Okay I phoned 155 and they said I must use smtp.vodacom.co.za, and that i should turn off the security ports. I did that and now I cant download new mail, but I can send mail using the vodacom smtp. If I turn the ports on again I can download byt not send. Please can anyone help?? Maybe there is something wrong with the smtp.vodacom.co.za server?

smtp.vodacom.co.za is currently relaying a few ten's of messages per second, so it's humming along nicely.
 
V3g,While were talking bout this,whats the max size of the server allocation to a mailbox??I cannot send any attachment bigger than 4Meg...server wont allow it..this sucks..

I'm surprised that there should be any limit. I'll ask the admin and do some tests.

What error are you getting? A time-out?

Not sure if we resolved your problem?

Do you have a problem sending large attachments via smtp.vodacom.co.za? (my understanding)

Or do you have a problem with your Vodamail account?

Or do you have a known problem with ABSAmail?

Uhmmm,yes,no and no..Sending large mails thru smtp.vodacom.co.za is the problem..No larger than about 4 Megs,otherwise its bounced emmediatly with something like sorry,server does not allow for such large mails or something like that...
 
As stated above I've relayed mails larger than 4Mb (tested up to 8Mb) over the weekend, via smtp.vodacom.co.za. All went through without a problem.

Maybe PM me the target address and I'll try and send a mail?
