smtp.vodacom.co.za

You won't be able to ping it, I believe the ICMP's are being blocked.

I can send and receive mail via both the internet and internetvpn APN's (time: 20:30).

Not to sure what to suggest....a disconnect/reconnect maybe?

(Now I sound like a MS engineer...i.e. I don't know what's wrong so maybe a reboot will fix the problem...)

Aha. I was still using "168.210.129.147" rather than "smtp.vodacom.co.za" - when I changed to the latter all the mails went off straight away.

It took me about an hour to get my mail out. Basically a battle between the SMTP server not responding and my 3G connection that disconnects every few minutes. Eventually I got it out.

Just out of interest. My connection disconnected in the time it took from connecting, loading this page and typing the paragraph above.

Vodacom. YOU BROKE SOMETHING. Please fix it.

SMTP Problems

I can't send email via smtp.vodacom.co.za yesterday and today. Everything else works including my backup smtp server.

I'm on the internetvpn APN.

Anyone else?

Been using the Voda SMTP for some time now without any hassles... and the mail has been arriving too?

You using the ip address of the server or smtp.vodacom.co.za in your mail app?

Would assume you are connecting to the net with Vodacom (either 3G or gprs) and not ADSL, dial up or the likes?

I had a similar problem on the internetvpn APN - everything except voda{com4me,mail} was accessible. After changing to the 'internet' VPN, everything was fine.

Vodacom SMTP

Yesterday and could also not send via smtp.vodacom.co.za nor could I get to the Vodacom site. All other browsing etc was fine, except for frequent disconnects.

APN: internetVPN

smtp.vodacom.co.za works fine... Just make sure that you don;t have invalid / duplicate DNS / default gateway settings.

What are the correct default gateway addresses? I often see 10.64.64.64; but that's a default. Does anyone know what it should be for both the 'internet' and 'internetVPN' APNs?

Generally "internetvpn" is used in conjuction with a 3rd party or additional vpn connection to the company server. So therefore you would not be using vodacoms smtp server.

If you were using your email and had a mweb or iol or tscali account of sorts then you would be using the internet APN.

Try it and let us know..

The only difference between the two APN's are the IP addresses being assigned, with the internet APN it's 10.x.x.x and with the internetvpn APN a 196 routable address.

All the server addresses (DNS, SMTP, etc.) will work from both APN's.

I can only successfully access the SMTP server from the internet APN. internetvpn APN does not work and gives an error.

Everything else is fine on both APN's except fot the SMTP server.

biometrics: You also still experiencing this?

Vodacom3g,

there are complaints on multiple threads as to not being able to connect to vodacom4me, smtp etc via the internetvpn APN. I logged a fault which was closed the next day and had to open a new fault for this problem which has remained in status logged. What I want to know is does anybody test if the fault is cleared before closing faults. It is getting harder and harder to get faults logged with Vodacom. During January I had the problem what appeared to be losing the downlink i.e. after a randon time I would no longer receive anything from the network and would have to reconnect. My itemised billing is pages long as a result of having to reconnect sometimes every minute and 155 wouldn't log a fault because it may be my mobile and I must test with another mobile. In the last few days I have not experienced once so it looks like it was a network problem.

Still can't send email via smtp.vodacom.co.za via the internetvpn apn. I am not connected to a vpn at the moment. Everything else works fine including my backup smtp server.

I have reported this a week ago. Have also sent V3G two emails. No response. Seems like we are being ignored or things are slipping.

A WEEK IS TO LONG! HELLO ANYONE OUT THERE!!!!

EDIT:

Sorry V3G, just checked my email now and I see you have escalated it last night.
