SNO's launch plan

Sounds very good to me, and I'm very optimistic.. all hope has been lost on Telkom for years and as far as I'm concerned my support goes to the SNO.

We shouldn't underestimate either of them though.. sure things don't look exemplary at the moment but that could change very rapidly if the right things happen.

A duopoly where they both have high prices would be stupid. The SNO cannot expect to gain adequate market share and turn a decent profit if their prices aren't more attractive than what their competition offers. Thing is with competition prices will become lower at varying speeds and degrees, but the SNO WILL have to offer something better to get more customers, as the lower the prices go the more customers they will need to reach the revenue achieved by the fewer amount of customers.. and with Telkom's 15% projected market share for the SNO they won't be making all that much profit.

But 15% is Telkom's estimate, and a bad one at that as they aren't the ones who receive the mails from Hellkom, so they have no idea what the feeling is toward them from the average consumer/business/SME/corporate. Maybe Markinor can do another survey and tell Telkom that everyone loves them..

With reference to Telkom's next generation networks they are probably referring to the MPLS network that they are currently implementing to transition from their ATM network. Although I stand to be corrected by someone with a little more knowledge.

VSNL (The Tata Company) struck a $130-million deal to pick up Tyco Global Network's (TGN) 37,208-mile (60,000 kilometre) submarine fibre optic network that connects northern Asia, America and Europe. The Tyco cable has the largest capacity globally. It is of the order of 7 terabits on the Pacific route.

Way to go. I'm looking forward to see the same initiative applied in SA as international access is now the fly in the SNO's ointment.

I think the best thing to do is spread what you read into their press releases and then by the time they are ready to supply the country they will have a bucket full of preconceptions to fulfill.

So we end up with 30Gb caps instead of unlimited... I will still be smiling.

I'm easy I just want a 4Mb connection and 30Gb cap... EASY

I'm not holding my breath

Telkom/SNOT will probably turn out the same way as Vodacom/MTN/CellC. Same rip-off prices and so-so service. Don't rock the boat CellC, or we will cut you off.

Just look at the price of banking in SA. There is no collusion here - the competions board said so. You can trust them. Really.

SNOT's strategy will be typical South African business ethics:

The shareholder comes first, the board second, the managers third, the employees fourth, and, oh yes, we've got customers as well, so we'll put them in fifth place

Thus, behaving the same as teklom! D U O P O L Y coming up!!!!
