Just curious as to when rain expects full eSIM support. My iPhone SE has it (and I think some of the new Samsungs have it too?) and I would love to pipe all my phone data through rain and just have Vodacom for calls. Save me some cash on data.

I can't be the only one that wants to do this surely.

Get an esim from Vodacom, then use a rain sim for data, that works for me.

I called them an everything, no one could tell me how to get the esim service activated on my account.

Could you explain how you got the QR code etc? You use it on a watch as well?

So firstly I don’t have an esim working on my watch, I don’t have one that offers that.

I also tried the phone but when I called no one knew what an eSIM was! To get the QR code I went to Vodacom World and chatted to one of their service consultants. I told her I wanted an esim attached to my existing number (it’s basically a duplicate of your main VC number). She told me she didn’t think it would work but I kind of insisted and she went through the process. I had to approve a R100 activation fee and R25 monthly fee, then she emailed me a QR code and a PIN was sent via SMS. Under mobile data on iPhone you can add a data plan, which opens your camera and scan the QR code. You may also need to input the PIN.

Then a new data plan is available on your handset, you can choose how you want to use it, voice, data or both and that’s it. You can have either the physical sim only running or the eSIM or both. It’s super handy.

Great, exactly what i needed to understand. Frustrating trying to explain to them..
 
Rain has the the eSim and all that its working but they wont release it as they under pressure from Vodacom, since they sell them tower space which actually is the main reason how rain makes money. Vodacom has probably threatened them if they launch eSim, as it was due to come out last year May according to one of their press releases

Also i was able to manipulate their site last year and perform the checkout for the eSim but they quickly blocked that after i got it to work

Thanks. I called Vodacom and the sorted me out. They emailed the QR code and smsed the confirmation code.

An a happy chappy that my iPhone is dual sim
 
Called Vodacom they couldn’t do it for my one SIM card yet, they told me I need to go in store.
Will see what happens

Just ask them to activate Vodacom one and to email you the welcome message. Tell them it’s for a watch if you have to.

What is interesting though is that I haven’t used the actual sim and the esim is still working perfectly.
 
Okay so you can only get a eSim on the Open ended contracts they told me, im on a uChoose and they wont give it to me, i got that lekker deal last year of 60GB Anytime for R220 per a month on an existing contract so i cant exactly complain...

Yup, I had the same experience, had downgraded to a Uchoose and the eSIM disappeared! Had to upgrade again to get it back.

Tried getting it activated yesterday at 2 stores. 1st store didnt know how to do it, logged a request with Head Office (Still waiting on feedback)

2nd Store, told me that MTN doesnt do eSIMs for devices. I had to show them their own support page. They also logged a request, also still waiting. This was all done yesterday before 12.
