So a few weeks back i decided to swop my Iphone 5 for a S4, i did this as i have ± 18 months experience on the Iphone and wanted to thoroughly test Android/Samsung as i'm upgrading probably beginning December and my choices are Note4 or Iphone6.

Let me say both phones have their strong and weak points,
What i love about the Samsung/Android :
Brilliant screen, the colors are just amazing
Screen Size, what a pleasure it is working on a bigger screen
Customizable themes, installed the Buzz launcher
Loving all the downloadable apps and how customizable the entire phone is.
Copying photos and music is a breeze, at last i have a ringtone which is not a default Apple ringtone
Battery life, can’t tell you how Nice it is not having to charge my phone halfway through the day
The sound is much better

What i hate about the Samsung/Android
For a phone with such superior hardware, the phone lags
The touch screen is not as responsive as well as the Iphone, i keep making typing mistakes and same things i have to press several times before it registers
The Back button which is also touch is not very responsive
Apps hangs or freezes
Phone freezes (might just be a long lag)
Customizable themes, even though i love them, they make the phone slow.
The settings menu is all over the place
The more apps you load, the more the phone freezes
Whatsapp is absolutely horrible compared to IOS
Wifi drops
3G drops (even though it says its connected) and i have to restart the phone

Conclusion
Well, to be honest, i got the phone since certain members on this forum goes on in every thread on how superior Samsung/Android is, so they sort of convinced me. What i can tell you now is that you have to live in a dream world and bullshtting yourself if you tell everyone Samsung is superior to Apple, Android Superior to IOS, there are certain features which are nice, but since i had the Iphone, the phone has not frozen once, not a single app has stopped working once, there is absolutely NO lag, what is the use of having 2Gb ram with fcking 8 cores if your phone can’t even scroll through the menu pages without freezing? (and apparently this happens on all android phones, even the king of the hill G3)
My brother also has a S4, i asked him how he lives with this phone and he said he thinks it’s fantastic, (in the same breath he said i must remember he is not used to anything better coming from a BB)
The simplicity of the Iphone is just so much better, a phone which on paper should be completely inferior to the Samsung but still be superior on most aspects.

The day Iphone fixed its lame-ASS battery, there will be absolutely no reason to move over to Android.

So to anyone and everyone who lurks on the forums, forcing their “superior Android/Samsung” down everyone's throats, please guys, just stop. Its better on paper which does not seem to mean anything in real life.
Hopefully Android L addresses a lot of these issues. The touch sensitivity is something Samsung probably has to look into, can’t think Android is to blame for that.

Thank heavens i only have to work with this phone until end November/Beginning December.

Ur doin it wrong. :p

This is the only S4 I have heard of with these issues.

Is the software/firmware up to date?

I disagree.

Running KitKat on a phone with worse specs than iPhone 5 and S4 and I have no lag :D

Just had a laugh, wanted to respond with the phone, "MyBB has stopped working" :p
Anyway, yea it had Android 4.3, updated yesterday to 4.4.2 via Kies

lol :D seriously though, there is something not right...

Your experience is the exception, not the rule.

I would start hunting for the culprit app/s if I was you...
Also possibly you got malware.

In my opinion if you want the proper Android experience (in terms of UI at least) then you've got to compare it to a Nexus phone :) At least there all the bloatware is gone and it's closer to that iOS experience where the hardware and software are made for each other :)

Although there are definitely things that'll be better on other Android phones. The Nexus 5's camera isn't anything amazing and I'm sure the Samsung screens are probably more vibrant (IPS vs AMOLED). HTC Sense I've been told is actually really cool as well.

Definitely something wrong with your phone, this is not what I have experienced with the countless Android phones I have had. I have also used Apple as my work has forced an iPhone and iPad on me. But I can see how people who are not that interested in the workings of their phone to not enjoy the total customization Android offers.

Lag issues are coming from your rom or launcher. Never used buzz launcher, try Nova.
I have never ever experienced touch screen issues.
Lag is definitely coming from maybe an outdated rom or launcher.
Customizable themes: Again this might be your launcher.
The settings menu is all over the place because you are used to Apple setup.
The more apps you load.......... This again is your rom or launcher.
Whatsapp is absolutely horrible compared to IOS. In what way?
Wifi drops. This happens on my ipad often also but again this might be specific to your handset.
3G drops (even though it says its connected) and i have to restart the phone. This is your handset issue

Customizable themes, even though i love them, they make the phone slow.

There is your problem. Buzz launcher made my phone slow down as well but there are plenty of other launchers out there that doesn't have the same problem. Try 4.4.2 with no launchers first and see if that makes a difference.

Android rot is probably to blame, if you wipe/load ROMs frequently you don't notice it as the installations are fresh.

Want some cheese with that whine?

I'm on my second android phone first was an HTC, currently a Note 2, and I've never experienced any of the issues you're describing, so either you got a dud phone or the something else is wrong.

So how is a official stock rom to blame?
And how to n "reload" the rom?
Again, sht i never had to put up with on Apple.
I deleted the launcher now.

Had a fiddle with an S4 yesterday, there was lag between home screen and right swipe, damn annoying, yet no lag going back to home screen.
Phone hasn't been rooted or other bs that we seem to have to do to get the thing functioning right.
I enjoyed the real estate though and the onboard 32GB, very nice phone but ****e OS.

Now they'll tell you how you need to modify it to make it work.

Including rooting it.

Should have worked properly out of the box.

I must say i have had the opposite experience. I moved from an Iphone 5 to a Sony Z1 and i couldn't be happier. The phone is better in almost every way, camera, screen, battery life, I can swim with my Z1 without any harmful side affects, every week I can make my phone look and work completely differently. granted the multimedia i find is better on the Iphone but other than that i cant find any reason to go back to apple.

I think each device/software has its target market. Some folks want a phone to be simple and just work and for that there is the iphone. Some folk want to tinker and change their phone on a weekly basis and for that there is andriod.

each to their own

I  my Sony Xperia Z1 :p

Had a Samsung galaxy SII before.

S4 was out when I got my phone. I don't regret my choice :)

The S4 had some issues at the time, and looked just too plastic to me.

Guys, their is no use, get an iphone. Don't waste your time with Android. You are an apple guy, live with it. Android users are different and make their phones work for them.

each to their own

I think most people would want a phone that works.

Yeah, I also gave the S4 a run! Loved customizing it but it became a bit obsessive compulsive and I was spending too much time playing with it!

There's no question the UI lacks the smoothness and refinement of iOS.

Oh I don't. But have also gone through the experiment.

However what you say is true. The users are fundamentally different and apart from a few who toe the line it will almost always be one or the other.

The things Android people hate about iOS is are the same things the iOS people love and the same applies inversely.

"Making it work" doesn't come into the equation when I buy something. I don't do it when my cars or my bikes...certainly not going to do it with my phones/tablets.
