So I went to Capitec

Have you tried jumping through the hoops to earn some eBucks?
I got the Gold account to earn some eBucks, but now my plans have failed because they changed the rules like a month after I opened the account.

Now it's not worth it, I'd rather just earn Capitec interest, pay less fees, and use a better banking app.

No doubt motivated by FNB's social media finger pointing at Capitec this week...

Seems like they are getting really hot and bothered with Absa and Capitec... The first radio ad takes a swipe at Absa because you pay for the rewards scheme (yet earn way more, actual money vs points and the choice of shopping partners are more)

This advert seems to be a swipe at Capitec? because it is "Pay as you transact" (Pay FNB R109 regardless vs Pay R5 and whatever you actually do use)

Has anyone used the Easy Equities widget to buy shares/etfs etc.? I see that you can now make purchases in EE using your Capitec balances, instead of first transferring to your EE account. Has anyone done this and are there any extra fees for doing so?

Guessing you weren't on the Easy PAYU account then....
Nope, the Gold (now Aspire). PAYU would cost more to receive international deposits, and it's not an interest-bearing account. Even the Easy ZERO wouldn't really work, because international purchases would still be 2.75%, and the account doesn't earn interest.

With Capitec, I just leave my money in the account, which earns interest that's swept to that new savings account, which earns more interest.

The interest covers all the banking fees and a lot more.

I did once and the funds still only appear 24 to 48 hours after I deposited to EE. Also you have to be very careful as you can easily transfer from the wrong Capitec account if you have multiple accounts.

I used my card with Google Pay and noticed a R1 charge for "card validation enquiry". Does anyone know if this happens every time you use Google to auto fill your card details?

I had that the first time that I used my card with Steam and Origin. I think that I was charged $1 each on my first time, but the charge was later reversed.

Na this is different, it's that Mastercard processing fee again.

I see they now give 2% cash back at Dischem. Think it's related to the savings pocket.

The Mastercard processing fee is called as such.
Same thing, from their fees flyer:

A processing (authorisation/clearing) fee will be charged for both successful and
unsuccessful international transactions, whether the transaction was initiated cross-border
from outside South Africa or locally from within South Africa. This includes the account
status inquiry when an international merchant loads your card for payments

So I just read that the Jacob Zuma foundation is asking South Africans to help pay for his corruption court cases. Then I saw they have an account with Capitec Bank. I won't be contributing anything but now I am worried if my savings will be safe in my Capitec account. It's so close to an account of a man that has sold out South Africa.

Your savings should be at Tyme Bank...
