So I went to Capitec

But when a bank makes R22 bank charges off me while paying me R132 interest in a month, I cannot blame them for trying to claw back revenue with sms updates...

Capitec are making interest revenue out of your money to be able to sustain the "loss" of R110.

Fantastic, win-win for client and bank unlike some SA banks where the client makes a loss monthly from charges.

No doubt. Financing their unsecured lending business. But, if I parked that money in one of the big 4 banks while it waited for the debit order run, I would've earned R0 while paying A LOT more than R3.20 a debit order....

I needed to transfer money in a hurry earlier today. Went into the App and it asked me something about verifying my email address for something but I did not read properly and just clicked the option to take me to my accounts as I was in a hurry.

Anyone had that and what is it all about. FOMO now...

Seems it's for roll out of new functionality; more security, etc. Seems like some cool stuff actually.

Wish it would ask me again. Have logged in and out several times without success.

You can change it by your profile on the Internet banking website.

Further to this - I eventually found the "verify email address" in my VIEW NOTICES section after much searching.

I added my email address. Dont know what its for though. It just said it is for added security? What new features are you guys talking about?

What cool stuff?

1. Seems you can now email your statement from the app. 2. Send your account details to a 3rd party (so there's no excuse when That B*TCH BETTER HAVE YOUR MONEY!) And 3. for certain user's I've noticed around here, who have qualms with paying 40c for sms updates, seems you can now turn them off and on as you please from the app (Makes sense for when you're physically present when monies are being sent to or from your account) Could be more stuff haven't seen yet.

Interesting article in Noseweek magazine.....
Page 9 in the October edition.
Wonder how many people actually read the fine print..

Nedbank used to charge me between R800 and R1000 to exchange a quarterly payment from DOSS in the UK. Capitec charge R25,00 and I benefit from the exchange rate

My 1st September payment went through at £1 = R 20,05 and when I calculated the exchange, the extra fees were R 25,14

Nedbank would have 3 sets of fees, "forex services", "exchange rate adjustment" and "commission". It was told the exchange rate adjustment would be refunded but it never was. Letters to Nedbank are replied to by telling me I am no longer a Nedbank customer, so they are unable to assist.

Scan of the article or even just a vague description of what exactly you are referring to would help a lot here....
