So I went to Capitec

My interest was R58
Fees was R32

Big improvement and the fees should be even lower in August like R5 as I am using my mom to transfer the money from SASSA for free as she is a pensioner :D.

I don't think they do anything related to online banking if not in the branch, probably safer IMO. It's a drag to go to the branch just to activate the app but so much safer when you think about it.
This is a feature of Capitec. The branch has to activate everything because they have the fingerprint machines. However they have no powers to fix or put anything right.

What doesn't work - the prepaid thing?

Does anybody know the procedure for chargebacks? They said to call their call center but I want to know what info I need to provide first and whether or not they'll send me in to a branch as well.

Is Capitec now forcing people to use the remote banking app? I have always used the token generator app to log into my online banking. Today, it wouldn't let me in, saying that I need to upgrade to the new app. The remote banking app allows you to do actual transactions from your phone, instead of only logging into your online account on a computer.

It's a bit early to force customers to have a smartphone.

To access online banking, you either need the Capitec app, or must buy a physical token generator.

Both apps are for a smartphone. I guess they're no longer supporting the outdated app.

Seems like it. The new one has many more features, but I was shocked that I was forced to switch.

It looks like Capitec wants people to upgrade quickly. The banking app has a new version available today. The old one will no long work on 20 August.

Capitec has another trick now. I went to a branch today. When the consultant had opened my account, he quickly ticked the boxes to activate sms notification. When I asked what he was changing on my account, he claimed not to have made any changes. Those sms notifications are charged at 40c each. When I later pressed him, he claimed that management has told them to sign everyone up for sms notifications.

I would complain on thir Facebook or Twitter page about that. The more people are made aware the better.

Unless you have peanuts in your account why turn off notifications? Or change the value at which you are alerted at, over say R300 etc?

40c can't even buy a chappie anymore, it's like worth less than snot

I don't have enough money to make it worth while. I.am annoyed that they try to turn it on without asking. It seems like a sneaky way to increase revenue.

IMHO it should be a standard feature but doing it sneakily is not the way to go about it

Why not have email notifications that we can set to sms alerts instead? That would cost them nothing.

$$$$$

At 40c an sms, Capitec is making a pretty penny out of them.

And so they should be entitled to. I have turned mine off and reduced risk by keeping less than R200 in my Global One account instead (all money sits in the 4 savings accounts). I would prefer to have the sms updates but won't pay the 40c each fee. But when a bank makes R22 bank charges off me while paying me R132 interest in a month, I cannot blame them for trying to claw back revenue with sms updates...

at a charge to you of 40c per sms, i doubt they are increasing their revenue at all.

but, you can disable sms notifications
