So I went to Capitec

Is it free? What's the incentive of using the ATM over going inside the branch?

Cash into ATM = 70c per R100 (NOTES)**
Cash into BRANCH = R1.40 per R100 (NOTES OR COINS)

**Some of their ATM's accept coins @ R1.40 per R100

What I find irritating here is that none of the ATMs take cash so I waste double the money in fees putting my SASSA grant into my account at the counter than if I could do it at the ATM :(.

Maybe tweet them and demand :D a cash accepting ATM. I think they are rolling it out to different areas slowly. If you doing a very large deposit I guess the deposit fee can get rather high if you do it in the branch

yep sometimes it is R3500 so ends up being R49 in fees and I tried asking them on Facebook with no luck as they said I must drive to Howick to do it (using petrol), but will try tweeting.

I still find it odd that our mall doesn't have a cash accepting machine with a big Capitec branch yet Howick does.

I have never deposited cash at a ATM. How does it work? Put in the account number and then you put the notes in one by one?

You need your account number, not your actual card. Luckily this number is on your Capitec card, above your name. Most banks don't display your account number, and your card number won't work.

Capitec uses note scanners, so no envelopes are needed. Unfortunately the scanners can be a little sensitive, very new or very old notes sometimes get rejected. Try to have decent quality ones without any folded corners. I find that it helps to put R10 notes on top and then work down to R200 notes.

You should talk to your branch manager. The one that I use didn't have a note accepting ATM until this year. He allowed the cash deposit at the tellers to cost the ATM rate as a compromise until the machine was installed.

I've never used an ATM without a card. Wouldn't trust that the account number will always be correct.

It is the risk that you take with card less services. It allows you to deposit money into someone else's account.

Yes but I'll still prefer using my card when it's my account.

Will speak to him next time and hope he can.

Took my sis yesterday to open her Capitec account. Her ABSA cheque card got cloned or something. Someone tried booking R3000.00 of FlyAfrica airtickets with her account. Anyway, she felt very insecure with all her savings lying in the same account. So I told her we should go and open a Capitec account for her.

She was very impressed with their service and the level of security they have and their processes. This will now be used to keep her savings safe.

Online banking having system errors, anyone else getting the same? Can log in but I try pay anything and it throws an error and signs me out.

I have reached the stage in my life where the status of a card colour means jack to me - when I was younger, image played a part.

I downgraded my Platinum cheque account to Gold at FNB 2 weeks ago due to the cheaper monthly fee. I just want a place to park my money before I either spend it or move it into my access bond (where I store savings). Capitec ticks the boxes.

For now I will keep FNB just to earn eBucks from takealot and other partners when I shop online (it looks like you have to continue to bank with FNB to still earn and spend ebucks - or am I wrong?).

Given all the EFT's/debit orders etc my fee calc more or less comes out to FNB's monthly Gold Cheque account of R100.. decided to stick with FNB (for now), given I shop a lot online = ebucks

Meh, still having the same issues and I am not a hoot missioning to get back into town for this now. Time to close up methinks :(

Aye, and tried it on 2 different PC's and 2 different accounts .... there airtime thing must be borked. Between getting my account put on hold and forcing me to go in, a relative being locked out of the account because the token pin wasn't being accepted to this not being able to do airtime, it's just getting to be meh.

Have you reported it to them meneer?

Ja, I just got the stock standard "come in to the branch" response :/

That is weird. It sounds like a IT issue with their system so would think they would just log it for you on the phone.

I don't think they do anything related to online banking if not in the branch, probably safer IMO. It's a drag to go to the branch just to activate the app but so much safer when you think about it.
