So I went to Capitec

You should open the correct document. I think you are looking for the easy account pricing.

Then it's not absolutely awful, it's just awful according to your taste.
It's straight forward, simple, no thrills, does what it says on the tin, very far from absolutely awful in my opinion, I quite like it.
Yeah I get what you saying gives you what you need and carry one

Won't allow me to rep you.

But she has a Volkskas/ABSA account from 19something...

:crylaugh:

I understand that situation all too well. My gran has a Volkskas(ABSA now) account she opened before I was even born, I have been trying to get her to go over to Capitec as well, but she's too stuck in her ways.

Who has an older account?
Just checked mine: 29 Apr 2006.
My pet peeve about Capitec is that they for some unknown reason do not allow you to use the android app and the website. They disable the website access if you register to use the app. The website is pretty good, and it uses a single tcp connection to a gateway server, so i added a button to my firewall that blocks all connections except for that one to capitec, and then I do banking, then press the button again. The android app is more convenient but i feel its a bit dangerous as well. I dont like secured with only a 4 digit pin code, and you don't have a way to prevent keylogging or other snooping. I cannot fault the website though, its great.

That's not quite right. You can definitely access the website when you have the the app. What you can't do, is access the website with a seperate key/dongle and still have the app.

Can't be, I have access to both.

Seems the Credit Card credit insurance isn't mandatory. Just popped a mail to [email protected] and asked them to cancel it. Hate it when companies roll out products and not educate their people.
Is see this on their website:

  • Existing policy
You have the right to not take the Capitec credit insurance policy underwritten by Guardrisk, but then you have to provide Capitec with an alternate policy of your choice.
The minimum requirements for an alternate credit insurance policy are:
  • The interest of Capitec must be noted by the insurer of the alternate policy
  • The alternate policy must have at least the same benefits as the Capitec credit insurance policy
  • The alternate policy must be in force
  • The alternate policy must have the same or fewer exclusions as the Capitec credit insurance policy and be acceptable to Capitec
Did you have to do any of this?

No since they came back and said it isn't mandatory on the CC. I told them to cancel the policy. Just include your ID and CC acc nr. in the mail.

The website also states
Credit insurance is required for credit terms of 7 months and longer to cover death, permanent or temporary disability, unemployment, the inability to earn an income or retrenchment.
Even the budget facility on the CC is less than that so I always had a suspicion it isn't mandatory. Guess I should've asked them sooner but oh well they made a quick R240.28 from me.
