.. for 40mb VDSL . Just means I need to get hold of a VDSL modem within the next 24-48 hours. Looking to get the Billion 8800NXL from either Wootware or Webantics, unless there's a brick and mortar shop in my area where I can purchase. Anyone ..?

Look at my line stats on VDSL 20meg

VDSL Port Details Upstream Downstream
Line Rate: 2.103 Mbps 20.546 Mbps
Actual Net Data Rate: 2.047 Mbps 20.476 Mbps
Trellis Coding: ON ON
SNR Margin: 30.0 dB 24.4 dB
Actual Delay: 0 ms 1 ms
Transmit Power: 2.4 dBm 14.1 dBm
Receive Power: -10.6 dBm -4.4 dBm
Actual INP: 0.0 symbols 0.0 symbols
Total Attenuation: 13.6 dB 18.6 dB
Attainable Net Data Rate: 18.637 Mbps 60.104 Mbps

Anyway, got home and saw my line is currently syncing at :

Connection Speed 15359 kbps 1195 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.5 db 5.9 db
Noise Margin 11.8 db 7.3 db

Speedtest around 13mb/s

So it would seem that I moved closer to the MSAN since this morning :) Assume this being ADSL , otherwise modem would not have synced. Still don't understand the non-VDSL though.

The technical one works fine... it's when they want to bring 'orders' into the chat session. Then... nothing. Anyway, got home and saw my line is currently syncing at :

Great, you one step closer. You will most likely see your line still syncs onADSL2+

Your line Attenuation looks OK.
When you get your VDSL modem get it configured and make sure your VLAN setting on VDSL profile is correct.
Pop onto the chat again with techs and ask them to convert your line to VDSL.

I went through exact process last week. They only up the line on ADSL2+ until you ask them to convert it as they don't know what type router on your side.

Stats on the Billion :
Mode ADSL_2plus
Traffic Type ATM
Status Up
Link Power State L0
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 15.1 7.3
Attenuation (dB) 12.0 6.9
Output Power (dBm) 10.1 11.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 26216 1207
Rate (Kbps) 15359 1207

Will see where I can go from here....

Your SNR looks low though. Do you use a pots filter?
Your Attenuation is excellent. Will definitely get 20 meg on line if the SNR will play along.

Same filter that was on the ADSL router. SNR used to be around 30 before they cut me over to the MSAN

Try and bypass the filter and see if it makes any difference. If I remember correct, there was another post where guys said there's a issue with adsl filters on vdsl lines. But vdsl filter is backwards compatible.
