I believe this forum needs a sticky for info such as this. In addition, do not just accept 'too far from the exchange". On Tuesday I was too far, 2 days later I'm on full VDSL and my house hasn't movedHows your VDSL connection profile setup? Check your VLAN settings.
VLAN 802.1p must be 0 and 802.1Q 835
I just connected my ZyXel router to test it and see how/if my line stats change but it says that the attenuation is 0. Anyone know how to fix this glitch (tried updating firmware) or find a different place on the router's management portal that I can get the correct stats?
Also, would you guys say 40mbps is possible with 14.5dB attenuation down? Does your attenuation change once connected to VDSL? My SNR margin (SNR margin, not SNR) was 20 earlier today but now it's +-13.5. Is this SNR margin normal for an attenuation like mine?

My phone cable ruins along a conduit with a mains power cable in it in my study for +-3m before it terminates to the phone wall box. Would it help if I move the cable?According to your stats above you will most likely get 20meg VDSL if its available in your area.
On the other hand it looks like you have noise on your line and it fluctuates?
A few things you should consider on a fluctuating lines and disconnects:
Pots filter (Test without and without telephone)
Is your DSL Line close to power lines(i.e. your socket next to you stove switch, Microwave, DB Board etc.)
Cables neat and tidy? No unnecessary twists and turns.
Do you use a RJ11 extender cable etc.? (Try connect router as close to wall socket as possible)
If the above mentioned does not make a difference then its most likely Telkom bad cabling from your house/flat to exchange.

My line stats before my line was moved to the MSAN. I think it's just a bit silly that I'm not connected to an MSAN that's 250m from me (following the road) which was also one of the MSANs in the first batch of MSANs that were rolled out. Poor planning on Telkom's side?
Yeah, like Luke said. We live right by each other.
As the crow flies you're actually closer to the MSAN (across from Lucky Rodrigo) than I am. Not sure if your cables come past my place. Maybe it's worthwhile getting on the Telkom Chat and ask the people to verify your distance , attentuation, etc
Thanks. I'll definitely try that. I'll have to connect the extension cord to a different switch circuit breaker. Is there a way you can test just by switching off those plugs on your db board? But i guess that power line powers your router as well? Maybe extension cord?
Will be interesting to see the difference.
I stay in a apartment where my dsl jack, microwave plug and oven switch is almost tight next to each other. When those plugs are switched off my line stats looks much better.
Use the Telkom Chat https://chat1.8ta.com/index.html, pick Technical and wait for someone to assistIf I phone 10210, are they able to see my line stats?
Never knew about that. Thanks.Use the Telkom Chat https://chat1.8ta.com/index.html, pick Technical and wait for someone to assist
Afrihost as well, but I've changed my uncapped to capped last year , so no problem there. All capped accounts are 'up to 40mb'Never knew about that. Thanks.
Lucky me, have to sit with ADSL for a whole month more while I could be having VDSL. I see that my afrihost 4mbps is on my invoice for next month (got it on 26/2) even though I thought I cancelled it. I was doing my daily computer work when I logged onto Afrihost's site and clicked the cancel button. I probably tabbed out after that because now I see that there's another dialogue box that pops up when you click the cancel button.
Silly me, oh well.
Luke, which ISP and package are you using?
Interesting... couldn't understand speedtest.net report my speed at 38/2.7 and mybroadband test 5/2, both to Jhb. So I tested MyBB to Ctn and it came back 38/2.7...
