How is Steam not scalable at the moment?

What do Microsoft's other offerings in SA run on? I mean, Office 365 is (partially) hosted here right?

I'm sure its not as easy as a server two. But if MS has any hopes of eventually selling the XBO here, they will need to bring Azure out here. Plus I'm sure other services depend on it. And it could be a competitive offering, say for companies currently using EOH or something similar.

Maybe a better question is why have MS not brought Azure here already?

Live scalability, altering an active server busy processing and general utilisation. No, 365 is not hosted partially here, we connect to Dublin.

To answer your last question, SA do not meet the capacity required by these entities. MS and Google set their deployments between 2(3)-5 years. Two other large entities, one being appreciated by the MyBB community had withdrawn due to them not meeting the requirements, the one company will only re-evaluate in 2018.

How much do you think a 1:1 4TB (up/down) connection costs with international breakout and peering between data centres, excluding the data? This is only a part in the broadband as their will be additional broadband requirements, like secondary backbones etc. Then we have the data centre requirements, CDN's, hardware, employment etc. etc. etc.

Compare the above with what you can obtain in the US, Europe and Asia.

Do note that SA broadband plans are prolonged...
 
No Microsoft have by offering a cloud service that isn't replicated in every region where it's meant to be used.


This is good news and I'm glad it's seeing international exposure so that Microsoft can wake the **** up.

Google and MS are pretty much on the same level in regard with regional coverage.
 
To be honest, the sooner PoPI is on the way, the sooner certain entities will be pushed to SA as this will pave the way. EMEA is very small without this continent (due to where certain abroad entities conduct business), do note that these companies may possibly deploy in Nigeria or Kenya, then SA.

We have local nodes for Gmail, Google Docs and presumably every other part of Google's cloud infrastructure.

We have NOTHING for Azure.

Where, who is hosting Google in SA? Strange though when we had an international outage that Google was completely dead. The last time I checked, Google (and their services) is by no means within PoPI compliance.

Answer me this Mike, did Google work with the international outage, especially with those the last time on Mweb (Seacom)?

However, Google do deploy their Google Global Cache (GGC) in both SA and Kenya regionally. The service is still dead without any international connectivity, so is google.co.za.

I'm not sure who exactly hosts it.

But latency suggests it's definitively local and I recall reading about it being hosted in Cape Town a few years ago.

IS maybe?

If we can host BF3 and BF4 servers, why not Titanfall? Surely Origin can put a foot in?

Should they “be able to temporary” deploy independent dedicated servers, yes. The problem is that the game is calculatedly integrated on Azure like the physics engine, AI, dynamics etc. FORZA 5 is also heading this direction…

I also understand the Respawn went with this route due to them being unable to deploy a large server network globally. The decision with Azure I think is based on the scalability to expand the servers as the game expands.

Do you have any evidence of this?

I know folks operating rather large university networks with Office365 and their biggest problem is no Azure replication.

When international link goes down they are dead in the water.
