Software piracy

There's nothing quite as invigorating as reading an individual's self-righteous one-dimensional understanding of a subject that is pretty much drowning in shades of grey.

If you can show me the shades of grey, I will show you where you went wrong.

There are many criminals on this forum that believe it is their right to pirate. Some bull**** excuse about greed and costing too much. They have often been shown the error of their ways but they keep on stealing movies/music/software.

But software piracy is not a criminal offence, so how can one be a criminal then?

Oh no he didn't :D

uFis will now proceed to rain down an ungodly firestorm upon you and try and convince you (and himself) that copying some data is the same as taking something from it's owner. Not only that but you are also responsible for crack smuggling, AIDS and the war in Iraq.

/gets popcorn

Edit: Ah darn, seems he left. I could have used some entertainment...

Lol, he sounds like an unstable chap.

Sorry, it's a complicated subject that would unfortunately go over your head and I'm afraid I don't debate with black-and-white fundamentalists.

Find someone else to troll :)

All hell is about to break loose on this thread, isnt it ?

Oh hell yes :)

Esp with people like ufis that thinks its ok for the media companies to rob us but its soooo wrong to rob them

Give us Netflix like service where we can get movies and TV for R60 a month, give us iTunes like service where we can buy a single mp3 and give us the freedom to buy games from where ever we please. That should sort out most of the piracy concern. Also if I bought something for my PC why do I have to pay again to use the exact same software on my Desktop?

Oh and last but not the least, dont tell me how I am suppose to consume that media. If I want to use it on my phone or my media center or my desktop it should be no concern of yours as I have bought to right to enjoy it.

Lame cop out. But I understand. You do not actually have a point, but you are still trying to save some face.

How are they robbing you? They have a product, a nonessential product (this mean you do not need it to survive like you do, for example, water). They set a price for that product. If you cannot afford it, find another product that you can afford.
But your greed leads you to believe that you have some right to their products.
You are in the wrong. You are the only one doing any robbing.

Robbing: Take property unlawfully from (a person or place) by force or threat of force

My dear, I've been at this longer than you. I've had this debate countless times before and my stance and argument are known by anyone who actually matters on this forum. This might come as a tragic shock to you but, I actually have nothing to prove to you :)

You, on the other hand, have everything to prove... and have already failed at just that. Well done :)

No matter how you want to play this, there is no way you can justify piracy. You know that and that is the reason you do not want to engage in a discussion. All the other comments about importance and suggestions of failure is just a smoke screen.

Okay.
