Nobody is getting legionnaires disease from heat pumps.
I never said you got it from heatpumps
Heatpumps circulate water in the geyser tank
and that chart is not totally correct. Go check WHO site recommendations

Usually, there is no growth above 55°C, and a temperature of over 60°C has a bactericidal effect.
 
Hi guys, feels like I'm going off topic with all the geyser talk, but what are the best sites to get prices on inverters and solar panels please?

Not recommending you do it DIY. Rather get someone in to correctly size and spec it for you
If Sunsynk's get recommended for you make sure your installer is buying through Herholdt's Group. Just for better response on warranty issues
 
I'd say it depends.

Off-grid is pretty easy to DIY.

Grid-tied can get complicated and dangerous.
Again open to perspective.
You will need a COC regardless unless you are doing it like a battery cart without panels.
Insurance is a bitch when your claim gets denied

True, but you can always get that after the fact.

Getting someone to install everything for you and buying all the equipment from them is a massive waste of money IMO.

Some of the quotes I've seen you could triple your system going DIY.

Thank you for all the opinions and responses . All right so i just paid for the following installation

2x 5kw deye inverters
10x panels
2 x deye 5.12 batteries.

This will give me a 10 year warrantee on the system. I think this system will also give me room to upgrade.
I will add panels and batteries as required. At the moment roof layout is a problem so will see how it goes.
 
What is everyone's opinion on one 8kw inverter vs two 5kw inverters?
2 x 5 = 10kW for starters. 10 > 8.

5kW also are quiet with no fans apparently.

2 inverters have redundancy and cost the same as 1 10kW inverter but now you have 4 mppts instead of 3 (or 2 with 8kW).

yea if you do tests you do the same conditions for both items
geyser losses go up as the temp goes up and the ambient goes down
now yes the difference isn't that much,

point being this seems like the test was done in someones backyard
until; they found a run that said what they wanted it to say

so the ptc element they set 50C on the 3kw element they set 60C and stopped at 52c?
the 2kw was set to 50c too

why isn't temps set to normal range that all homes use

ie start with the same water temp with same abient temp with the same end temp high enough to kill all bacteria, then losses can be calculated if the one took longer to heat we know the loss rate for tanks they are rated exclude that and then give the total energy consumed


why exactly is the 2kw dumped avg temp so much lower if it was heated to the same temp
we simply can't take them seriously with a mickey mouse test conditions

the saying lies, damn lies and statistics comes to mind
 
Anyway so here is a basic test done by someone I have dealings with in PV ... Not Laboratory though. But close enough to show there is a difference


Normal: 16deg + 34deg = 50deg in 37mins. Power used 1504Wh
PTC: 15deg + 36deg = 51deg in 37 mins. Power used 1352Wh

I'm asking for evidence to support the claims you are making, being sceptical doesn't mean I'm not willing - I have my doubts but a simple like for like comparison will convince me, If it does indeed work why evidence of this simple test so hard to come by?

Would I buy one ( if I used a geyser ) , yes , but not for the reasons you are looking at.

ie heat the normal element the tank picks up heat, so when you fill it up with cold water again heat gets transferred changing the parameters

not saying this is what happened just pointing out how we can inadvertedly affect a test

that is why we do tests with the exact starting parrameters ambient water tank temp etc in lab conditions where we can assure an even playing field

Thanks for the feedback, I'm in the process of getting quotes, so I'll probably go with two 5kw inverters then.
So just one thing on this. It may be minor and outweigh other considerations

An inverter has in internal usage of 50W to 100W depending on the make and model you get. Some of the cheap inverters can be higher. The kodak (axpert clone) abortions I started off with were.
Over a 14 hour period per inverter that equates to 700Wh to 1.4KWh per inverter

In a case where you have no grid power outside solar hours you will need to cater for 1.4 to 2.8KWh of power usage just for your inverters to run in those 14 hours per day.
Just something to keep in mind making a choice between a 1 or 2 inverter setup. The graph below is from my 8Kw system and you can see in the nightime hours where solar is not in use and grid is not being used the stable difference between house load and battery output

I know the guy that did the house test and spoken to him a few times.
He wouldnt use a pos element and would have tried to create as close to apples/apples comparison that he could.
he is very active on the power forum and involved in the home assistant automation with inverters.
I wrote the solution that gets data from the sunsynk website into the home assistant platform

End of the day unfortunately his tests have too many variables to be considered accurate but I'll hand it to your buddy at least he tried and published results - better then the manufacturers

btw - lol I went to check base temp of water to be independent :) checked my Gas geyser this time (Yes I have one too :) )
Lets just say the Dew isn't hot
