Hey Guys,

Just need some advice on this . On 29 Jan my ADSL line died completely (no sync) . I logged a call with Telkom , and after a few calls I was informed that cable theft occurred at the exchange. I noticed that by line started to sync again 2 days ago , but no internet connection can be made , I let it be for a bit as I thought the line was still an issue . Today my call was closed and when I called to follow up Telkom said that the line syncs perfectly on their side and that there must be a problem with my router .

Now what I would like to know is : Can a router sync and not make an internet connection due to a line fault still , or is it 100% a router issue ? (bear in mind no changes was made to the router in the period the line was faulty)

I also informed my ISP and tried various other accounts to no avail

Just need some opinions before I try and make some calls to try another router :)

Regards

If there is a problem at the exchange, then it is possible for the router to sync but not being able to establish a PPPoE (Internet) connection with your ISP.

The ADSL modem syncs with the DSLAM, which can be a separate unit from the exchange.

IMO, I doubt that it's a problem with your ADSL modem. You can always phone Telkom help desk and ask them to do a port reset, which might do the trick required for your router to work 100% again.

TX Pada , will ask Tellkom to do that . Had such a bad experience tonight with an arrogant employee , telling me my line wont work because I don't have a standard Telkom phone LOL , hopefully I will find a more helpful employee

I know the feeling. When I reported a fault with my telephone line last weekend, the guy also asked what phone I'm using, even though the techie said that my line wasn't connected.

If you don't manage with the Telkom call center, then go to your local Telkom Direct shop. I've had nothing but good service so far from my local Telkom Direct shop (in Stellenbosch), except that I had to wait a couple of minutes in the queue and that they didn't have filters in stock the one week :)
