Hi folks

Yesterday I up(down?)graded from my Mweb 5gb Capped package to a 4096K uncapped.

Ever since then things have just gone from bad to worse. Now I know the service is shaped, but how much shaping is happening? As examples:

1. I cannot download a thing on Itunes. Downloads timeout or lose connection to Itunes after a couple of minutes/seconds and when they do run I am getting about 64K per minute.

2. I cannot play World of Warcraft. It was running perfectly before but I am now losing connection after a minute or two of play.

3. Many sites including the mweb site itself are taking ages to download.

4. Speedtest gives me a latency of 22ms (nice but prob impossible), and when the download part runs (maybe 1 in 3) I get anything from 0.2mbps to 0,6mbps, whereas I was getting 0.8mbps happily before.

5. When I look at my usage, a full 1gb of data was apparently UPloaded from my account in the first eight hours of the new service. I do no uploading, don't use torrent sites at all, no filesharing and my router is pretty secure. How can this be?

I am asking these questions here as I am sure mweb will not have the answers. Should I simply go back to my capped service?

Lastly (and somewhat unrelated) my line currently runs at 1mb. How do I get it to run at 4mb or 10mb? Apparently 10mb is available in my area.

Hope someone can help as I am going a little insane.

Thanks

1. It's quite possible that Speedtest gives you latency of 22ms it really depends to where you are doing it.
2. If you have high upload you should consider that you have a virus or SMTP worm.
3. Telkom may have 'stabilised' your line at 1mbit, with some begging or maybe phoning whomever supports your ADSL line you can ask them to raise it again. But the reliability thereof will entirely depend on how far you are from the Exchange. Also Telkom has new trick because their DSLAM exchanges are overloaded they limit clients speed. There is very little you can do about it, unless you can find a Telkom account manager to escalate it (and then you might still only get limited speeds).

Afraid you cannot expect capped performance from a uncapped account. Why not invest in a pre-paid account just for gaming - axxess 1GB @ R70 for example?

Mweb suck. You need to cancel your service with them and change to a decent ISP who is not using IS bandwidth.

I have to agree with zero_cool, MWeb sucks.
I was running a mweb account with them last week, and because of the services I've moved on. :D

for example, when playing wow on a 4mb line my latency was sitting at 10000ms. After phoning there help desk center, then end result was "Sorry sir that's the best we can give you"
