I called Frogfoot this morning, our school's ISP, who confirmed that there definitely was an issue yesterday with international access. When I asked about today, they couldn't confirm yay or nay if the problem has been resolved.
The staff have been all over my back concerning this, but I can't magically fix it for them. I hate it when this happens.
Still intermittent here at work. Had trouble opening up Avast's site, and I need to run it on one of the staff's machines. At least I'm able to download the update.
Staff didn't complain after I sent out the mail, but it still sucks. ADSL isn't usually this problematic.
the problem is back after working smoothly for most of late last night. *sigh*
perhaps one of the staff writers here could try find out what the story is, since Axxess told me that there's no notice on the Telkom noticeboard (as of last night) and that Telkom couldn't give them further details.
Glad to know I am not allone, I have to hit refresh about 6 times befor is stops telling me I am not connected to the Internet.
what I can se is slow, and that is not a lot.
It's truly a sad state of affairs when your ISP can't even tell you what the problem is. I was told to try add dsl-cache.saix.net:8080 as my proxy in FireFox but that just gives some ACL access denied errors when I try visit a website.
I'm considering buying a IS account for the rest of the month if it means I'll at least be able to browse properly.
Again, still the same intermittent issue. Every time the staff ask me, I refer them back to the e-mail I sent out this morning. I can't very well now go and fix the internet can I lol. I don't think they get how bad Telkom really is for this country.
The thing is, over the years we have had relatively little issues, so people come to seriously rely on adsl. When it doesn't work, there's a crisis.
My surfing has been better today, but I still can't connect to some overseas sites. If I use the Tor Onion Network, then I see results, albeit quite slow....
It seems the posts have stopped, but my internet is still not right, websites are timing out and I'm having to constantly refresh. I'm on a 3gb Axxess SAIX account in Cape Town on the Wynberg 2 exchange. Is anyone else still experiencing problems?
It seems like connection problems are still there today. I get decent speeds on local sites, on international sites, it is a mixed bag - some sites I could connect to yesterday, do not connect today, and those that I could get to yesterday, seem to be unable to load....
I find it really interesting that using an international proxy server gets results albeit slow. (Check out torproject.org. I use the Onion Network - great for anonymity.) This is driving me nuts - and I lay the blame on Telkom, no one else!
Same here (and same area). Intl sites are fast, then slow etc. I change DNS servers frequently hoping to alleviate the problem but it doesn't really help. Even google.co.za which is usually lightning fast gets slow at times for me. Grrr
