Brand new.

I would go for a R9 280 or GTX960 from wootware. You would have to stretch your budget by around 500 though.
Or you could wait for the new R9 3xx series to come.

You can't say AMD is better than Nvidea, it depends on the actual cards in question.

Them's fighting words around here. Truth is they are pretty equal overall, but AMD tends to give a slightly better priceerformance ratio. Also depends on what games you play. Some games run better on Nvidia, some better on AMD.

It's unlikely you will get what you want at the price range of R2500 though.

Shop for a second hand 280 or 280x or a 7970.

A 960 will be okay too, but not many of them floating around second hand yet.
