Someone gave xrapidx a 40D

I'm inclined to think so too, cos I bought two items from them recently and their website was not reflecting the correct price.

Canon's jpeg compression is more efficient than Nikon's. Have you tried jpeg? That might solve your problem until you get that new card. The D90 can fit over 1000 photos ("jpeg normal", 12mp) on my 4GB card.

Yeah - JPG is fine, except I keep forgetting to set the white balance, and I recently had it set to Tunsung (can't recall the spelling) and was taking photo's outside - ended up messing them up.

So until I remember to do that - I'll keep to raw :p

Yeah, even the 50D was cheaper, I think it was R18500 with the 17-85mm lens.

Even if you remembered to do that it's still worth it shooting in RAW - today's computers are more powerful and hdd space is cheap so unless you're going to measure WB with a card every time before you shoot you'll always be guessing.

Yeah - I'll reserve JPG for emergencies - like a almost full CF card...

The 40d doesn't have an infrared detector, so I assume the 50d won't either. The RC-1 only works with the xxxD range. You need the RS-80N3 or the TC-80N3 (the TC adds timer capability).

If you want wireless, you're going to have to go for the v. expensive LC-5 (afai remember, there's a much cheaper ebay equivalent also).

Nice - I didnt know the 400D had IR (I've just got the wired remote).

On the rare occasion that I need wireless I just tether the camera to my MBPro and use its remote. :)

I have the RC-1 xrx mentioned, it works nicely for those sit down family portraits. Only disadvantage is that you must prefocus the camera, the autofocus is not activated by the RC-1 (it basically activates the timer).

Do you have a link on ebay? I saw a few but was worried they might be of suspect quality - and fry the camera.

My tethering method takes care of the focusing fortunately. :)

Plus instant feedback on a 17" display means we can see who blinked without getting up. ;)

From what I hear the D3 and D700 can accept DX (Nikon speak for EF-S) lenses, and the camera effectively becomes a crop camera. It even masks the viewfinder.

I have the RS-80N3 - it works well. I am saving up for the TC-80N3.
 
Quote for my insurance is R110 for R30,000 all risk - hows that sound?
 
crap - according to Outdoorphotoshop Canon SA are only expecting next year :(
 
Quick question - when I look through the view finder, there's a tiny blur at one point - is this dust on the sensor, or something else? I can't see it when I take a photo.
