Someone gave xrapidx a 40D

How are these lenses that come with the D90:
18 - 105mm VR + 70 - 300mm VR kit

18-105VR: Nothing to write home about. Not a great stabilizer either.

18-200VR: Excellent lens. Great stabilizer.

70-300VR: Also an excellent lens.

*sigh* Orms confirmed stock of the 40D, 50D and D90.... so Saturday is d-day :)

I went to orms :D
I felt the 40D. Dang it's a biggish camera, but it felt okay. The 17-85 kit lens was attached. Now I need to develop the courage to spend my money on it :o

Go on, you know you want to. It's a great camera.

I'm a bit worried about Nikon's build quality. Back when I was shopping around trying to make up my mind, I looked at the D300, and at one shop the rubber on the grip had peeled back. I didn't think anything of it, until last week when I saw two in two different shops with the same problem.

I'm def going to. Just need to be brave :p

What is supposed to be the 'direct' competition to the 50D, the Nikon D300?

They don't line up exactly. From what I can tell, the D300 is slightly higher specced (and more expensive), but the D200 is definitely below the 40D.

@mercurial

Not sure if you're still considering the 450D, but Orms now have this:
Canon EOS 450D + 18-55mm IS 7,995.00

Bad news is that Orms didn't have the 18-200mm kit lens in stock.

Good news is I now own a 50D :p with 17-85mm IS USM lens. I tried all three camera's, the 90D, 40D and 50D, and played around in the store for about 45minutes - I eventually decided on the 50D.

The LCD on this screen is also so much better, I could immdiately see whether a photo was in focus without having to zoom in.

The 90D was a strong contender, and I eventually chose the 50D purely because it felt better in my hand than the 90D

Thanks, but I think I "fell in love" with the 40D :) I'm gonna order Monday. SACamera is closed by now :)

Congrats. I guess you know what I'm going to say now right? - take some pics :)

Best ergonomics in that price range. (or in any price range, yes KJ?)

Which one - the 50D or D90?

I just held the D90 for the fist time. It's bigger than their lower end cams - feels nicer.

I just don't like Nikon's button layout and control system in general. I spent about half an hour playing with the D700, and at the end of it still felt kind of confused.

The Nikon had that screen protector flap... is there something like this I can get for my 50D?

I was talking about 40D/50D. D90 does not come close.
About button layout on Nikons - you get use to it. Once you got it set the way you like, it's easy, but I still like the 40D's custom modes on the dial. C1, C2 & C3, right? That's sweet. Come on Nikon!? Oh well, at least they have nice auto ISO.
