Hi Guys, posting this here as well, this section seem to get more views/threads

So after 2 months of wasting my time with telkom with line install etc etc. I now got the message that the Exchange is full in my area (Somerset Links, next to the mall), and I can't get ADSL.

Has this happen to anyone before? Does someone maybe know someone/something regarding the situation in Somerset West. Or maybe how long I can expect to wait?

Seems that this has happened to a few people in the area. This is so damn annoying, I spent a bunch of my hard earned cash on a router/modem/wireless card etc, and now they are pretty useless. I can't seem to understand why they couldn't have mentioned this from the start.

No I'm limited to the crappy wireless that the complex has to offer, I can barely get signal, which means I would need to buy an extra antenna just to get signal. My girlfriend has a laptop, which I can't buy an external antenna for, which means more money for a proper wireless card/usb device. They don't even allow concurrent sessions.

I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out!!!!

How good is your patience.
You'll have to wait for ADSL.
I has same problems a few years back but I got a call 4 months later saying they can install.

Your waiting period can be anything from 30 days to 30 years. Telkom have no customer satisfaction policy when it comes to the provisioning of an ADSL line.

Possibly investigate Amobia for a possible last mile alternative. They are unfortunately also wireless, and will cost you an installation fee, but your LAN gear might still be useful.

Try and use the wifi router you bought to connect to the complex's setup.

Play around with mounting positions, maybe a larger dB antenna.

Maybe your router can connect to the complex's wifi and then provide your home with its own dhcp server and private wifi hotspot, enabling you to use the single 1 concurrent connection they give you and connect multiple devices to it with a strong signal in your home.

Trust me the Somerset West exchange gives constant problems and really needs replacing.

I'm willing to but another AP or Stronger Antenna, but I don't want to spend another R300-400 just to end up with more of the same problem.

I have no clue how to bridge wireless connections, or how to use another AP/Reapeter to connect to the Wireless AP of the complex. If i could somehow do what DanH suggested, that would be ideal.

It is important to note that Telkom uses different DSLAMS for different services. So if you applied for 384k ADSL, and they say the exchange is full and can't support anymore ADSL connections, they usually mean "There's no ports left for 384k service"

Try 512k/4mbps and see if they say the same thing

Interesting, I'll try that

At least you have a working connections with few problems now and then, I have no form of Internet :(

Believe me its not now and then, its getting worse. Telkom state they will build another one when the need arrises as they don't have R1million lying around. So I am stuck with it until then or until I move?
