Something a bit different inside, come look!

So you're saying you will get the fat-pipe + bolt-on thing right ...because you have pretty graphs and will discuss stuff with your team first?

No no .. I didn't say that. I just said that we are very aware of what our network can handle, when we need upgrades, and we don't want our customers to have a bad internet experience. We plan ahead as well as possible.

At this point, I'm not sure what the next special will be, but this thread is being read by people here and taking everything into consideration.

Hi Chris

Thanks for engaging us in the forum here for ideas. I am loving the service I get from Vox - Thank you.

Maybe do a Bolt-on product range (can be fixed speed or not with a fixed price):

Bolt On Premium - The one you currently run which runs from 6pm - 6am (I think this time is correct?)
Bolt On Lite - 12am - 6am - The one plebs like me would probably use. Lol
Bolt On Business - 6pm - 6am

I have no idea about pricing as you guys will know what works and how you come out every month and also whether this would be easy enough to implement. This is just a plan - probably a doff one but a lot of new Vox users are used to a midnight to 6am data usage pattern.

I doubt very much that bolt-on will - and should - be connected to Fat Pipe. Fat Pipe is a premium capped product. It should always run amazingly well. Bolt-On is a shaped service and if - heaven forbid - the network does get congested, Bolt-On should be a product that takes the first knock to keep Fat Pipe running exceptional.

For this reason alone I think it's not a feasible idea to link the two.

This is also why I'll be more than happy if they upped the Bolt-On speeds - for an extra fee - and it does get perhaps effected with slower speeds given network load.

I shall be keenly keeping an eye on your site for more specials and announcements :D

I was just putting you the spot ...hoping for a "Yes" so I could follow it up with "Well then... wtf are you waiting for?!" :p I understand where you're coming from and regardless, I'm looking forward to using a fat-pipe again!

Glad you guys are considering things and that you know what your network can handle - honestly I am just so happy to have working internet and everything running full tilt all the time. Loving it - Just never pull a Afrihost. I think that they put Board Members, MTN and all that crap before the Client. They have been lying for months about how bad their network is. Now they trialing new networks which they will in-evidently oversell again and back by square one. I been with them for years before my eyes opened and it has been wash, rinse and repeat there.

Don't worry about the difficulty of implementation, that's for us to worry about (and it's a lot simpler than you'd imagine).

What's the difference between Premium and Business in your scenario?

Hey there. The reason I included the Business option (although they both run from the same time in my scenario) is just have the option for current Business users to have the option to the added on upgrade option (Bolt On Business) without looking on in envy at the other Fatpipe people :). It was just used by me to make sure that there is no oversight to any type of client :)

reading through here, certainly exciting times ahead with VOX - thank you Chris for keeping us in mind to help you with some ideas :D

your current 100GB fatpipe special with unlimited carryover is definitely a winner. If you can extend this to 200GB / 500GB levels as well, it will be the winning product.

either that, or 100GB + bolt on - that will give freedom to stream and use the internet in the evenings, without worrying about the being capped part

How long will it be until it's financially feasible to switch to fibre (Frogfoot) from Telkom copper?

That depends on a number of things!

1) Is our fiber close to you?
2) Can you afford more than what you pay for copper?

I think the prices are fair for the product (not released just yet as far as I know).

We haven't launched that product suite yet, once we do, you'll probably see a notice from MyBB in your mailbox if you subscribe.

How about Vox striking a deal with a really good NNTP provider like GigaNews?

This has been a bit of a topic around the office lately. Tell me, what kind of content are you looking for on such a news server?

Someone mentioned local versus international on the forums and in our offices. With a +/- 200ms delay off to the USA, is it really that big of a deal as opposed to +/- 10ms to a local one?

Regards,
Chris

Dont think delay plays a factor - i really dont game a lot on my international news server :P

retention and completion is much much more important - eg if the files can be kept intact longer than a few days, it will be a winner (see nextgennews)

advantage for vox i would assume, is that it will save you on international bandwidth? not much of a saving i know, but still?

I'd actually be more interested in knowing how aggressively VOX are planning on rolling out fiber. All of the fiber companies seem to be focusing on the same group of upper class suburbs and then not expanding coverage at all. I realise it has to be financially viable, but I keep reading articles where ISPs (including VOX) rolling out fiber say they have plans on expanding even into smaller towns, yet it doesn't seem to be happening.

My biggest fear regarding fibre is that one of the big corporates roll it out first in our neighbourhood (have already heard rumours regarding this), thus locking people into using them as ISP, as I doubt the smaller companies will want to compete directly. I don't want fibre with a 50 GB cap, that is ridiculous. And yes Chris, I am prepared to pay more for fibre. But only if we can get the same type of deal as Parkview/Parkhurst, and have open access on the lines.

^^^^ THIS!!! Experiencing the same uncertainty in my area of Norwood. The residents association was in an advanced stage of negotiations with Fibrehood but then back tracked for the benefit of a new supplier which had come highly recommended!! I was happy with Fibrehoods! They sell VOX!!

I'm not sure what the Frogfoot footprint is. I am in Cape Town and fall within the Lightspeed footprint.
Ideally, I wouldn't want to pay more than what I'm paying Telkom ;)

I would think that there would be infrastructure agreement between infrastructure providers to avoid running fibre to existing enabled site.
