Something bit me ....

Sorry to be a bit of a downer on this thread but it's a related story. My uncle recently passed away which started out as the result of a spider bite between his toe.

Doctor wrongly treated it and he ignored it thinking it was not serious. Eventually his foot developed gangrene and his leg was amputated below the knee to avoid it spreading.

Whilst in the hospital they diagnosed him with lung cancer... a week later he died from blood poisoning.

Wait until whatever was laid in there chews it's way out

I recommend amputation, definitely.

Joke:
This US tourist is in China sightseeing. He gets a boat ride on the Yangtze and idly sticks his hand in the water. The boat/tourguide looks at him with pure terror on his face but says nothing. Tourist return to the US. A week later the hand goes green w/ purple dots so he visits his GP. The GP says amputate, so being wealthy he gets second & third opinions from specialists. All say amputate. Tourist dude decides not a chance & flies to China to see a Chinese Doc and tells him the story. Chinese doc starts ranting about how incompetent the US docs are and that they want to amputate at the first sign of trouble. Tourist dude breathes a sigh of relief and asks what now. Chinese doc replies nothing....wait a week and the arm falls off by itself.

Charlie reference - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM

i was bitten in the the inside of my arm when we were in USA last year and it started out like that and progressed to small water blisters then progressed to my flesh being eaten away and because it was so deep and raw i had trouble sleeping or using my arm. It ended up being quite a deep hole my arm and took months to heal and we never found out what it was.

Had something similar, turned out to be a staph infection. It omnomnomnoms deep into your flesh and can be come quite painful. Takes a week to a ~month to go away.

wait i must google those long words.
Here is the longer one: Staphylococcus

Just don't google image it. It tends to show the absolute worst cases! You usually just hope it aint Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) - the kind of staph infection that can kill you and tends to be highly resistant to antibiotics.

For me it starts with small red spot and a deep shooting pain. Like a toothache. The pain goes away and it then forms like a normal zit. The center of the "zit" then usually tends to become a small black spot over the course of a few days. The deep throbbing pain usually comes back by now. You can puncture it and it will drain like this "thick" puss. You can keep doing this for weeks on end. If you do it properly you can get rid of it within a week. But this is only possible if the location of the wound is easy to reach. Usually if the last thick "snot-like" puss is out, leaving a gaping hole, it will stop progressing and start to heal.

I had one on the side of my face so I would use the hard bone at the back as a nice platform and apply a whole lot of pressure each night and clean it out properly. 3 days later it was 'over' and it started to heal.

jeez man that is hectic. i looked at the images but thank goodness mine was not as bad as that. like i said it started as a small bite/red welt and within hours it grew bigger with white/water bubbles around the infection then it rapidly started eating the flesh ( i think i did post pictures last year), it was a clean sore so there was no weeping or anything but it was raw about the size of a new R1 coin and as deep as one of those bigger watch batteries you get lets say about 2cm deep. it was damn sore and only healed a few months after coming back home to SA.

I'm sure good ol' Epson Salts & TCP will fix the problem in a jiffy.

Strange how the old simple cheap stuff always works wonders compared to the mega buck ointments & pills of today. It's the first stuff I reach for.

As far as i know they don't make TCP anymore. Asked the chemist and he said its been discontinued.

For the bite... i think its T.B affecting your body!
